Miami Heat Make Norman Powell Announcement Before Wizards Game

On Saturday afternoon, the Miami Heat will host the Washington Wizards in Florida.

The Heat are coming off a 147-129 loss to the Boston Celtics (also at home).

Norman Powell did not play in the game (and missed his third straight).

For Saturday’s game, the Heat have announced that they will remain without Powell.

The Heat wrote (via X): “#WASvsMIA INJURY UPDATE: Norman Powell (return to competition reconditioning) has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game vs the Wizards.”

The former USC star is in the middle of another strong year where he made his first career All-Star Game.

Right now, Powell is averaging 22.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 47.3% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range in 55 games.

Powell’s NBA Career

Before the Heat, Powell also had stints with the Toronto Raptors, LA Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers over 11 NBA seasons.

In 2019, he helped lead the Raptors to the NBA Championship over Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

Powell has career averages of 13.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 47.1% from the field and 39.6% from three-point range in 672 games.

At 32, he is averaging a career-high in points per game.

Miami Right Now

The Heat are currently the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 40-37 record in 77 games.

They have won two out of their last ten games (but are 24-15 at home).

Following the Wizards, the Heat will play their next game on Tuesday when they visit Brandon Ingram and the Toronto Raptors in Canada.

The Heat reached the NBA Finals in 2023.

However, they are coming off a season where they got swept in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

Wizards Before Miami Trip

The Wizards are the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 17-59 record in 76 games.

They are in the middle of a four-game losing streak (and have gone 1-9 over their last ten).

On the road, the Wizards have gone 6-32.
