The Minnesota Timberwolves are heading into their second-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs without their star, but there is reason to be hopeful.

Anthony Edwards is dealing with a knee injury, but new updates suggest the All-Star guard could be back sooner than expected. Here is everything you need to know.

According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, Anthony Edwards is expected to miss at least the first two games of Minnesota’s second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Charania reported on ABC’s Inside the NBA Tip-Off Show that Edwards got his first workouts in on Saturday and Sunday, the first time he had been active in about a week since suffering the injury.

Charania also noted that Edwards traveled with the Timberwolves to San Antonio, which is a positive sign. “Anthony Edwards himself is hopeful that he could push to be back in the lineup, potentially game three or game four at the earliest,” Charania said. “It’s really just going to be about how he feels, how his rehab goes on a daily basis here this upcoming week.”

Anthony Edwards’ Knee Injury: What Happened to the Timberwolves Star

Edwards‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets on April 26 when his left knee seemed to give out as he was trying to make a layup. An MRI scan later showed that there was no structural damage – no torn ligaments – which was a huge relief for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves made the decision to put Edwards on their injury report as week-to-week and shared that he got a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee.

According to Charania, Minnesota will be “conservative” with him, as he is working both knees.

Despite the injury, Edwards was outstanding during the first-round series against Denver before going down.

He averaged 18.5 points per game in the postseason, totaling 74 points across four games on 35.8% shooting from the field.

His best outing came in Game 2, where he dropped 30 points with 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in a 119-114 Timberwolves win.

The Wolves advanced to the second round even without their star, closing out Denver in six games, a good display of how deep Minnesota’s roster truly is.
