Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts during a playoff game as the team deals with late injury news, including Kyle Anderson being listed questionable ahead of Game 6 vs the Denver Nuggets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are dealing with growing uncertainty just hours before Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets — and the latest concern centers on Kyle Anderson.

Minnesota added Anderson to the injury report late with an illness designation, listing him as questionable in an update that quickly drew attention around the team.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the timing is what stands out most.

“Kyle Anderson was at shootaround this morning, but an add this late is ominous,” Krawczynski wrote.

UPDATE: As of 7:38 p.m. ET, the Timberwolves have officially ruled out Kyle Anderson.

Kyle Anderson Injury Update Raises Late Concern for Timberwolves

Anderson’s late addition signals a potential game-time decision, with the Timberwolves expected to evaluate him during pregame warmups.

Illness-related designations can shift quickly, but being added so close to tipoff often points to uncertainty regarding availability.

That creates a difficult situation for Minnesota as it finalizes its rotation for a critical matchup.

Timberwolves Injury Report Expands Ahead of Game 6

Anderson is not the only name on the report.

Ayo Dosunmu is also listed as questionable with right calf soreness, while Anthony Edwards remains out due to a left knee bone bruise.

Donte DiVincenzo continues to be sidelined as he recovers from right Achilles tendon repair, further thinning Minnesota’s depth.

There is some relief in the update.

Bones Hyland, who was initially listed as questionable with left knee soreness, has been upgraded to available — giving Minnesota an additional scoring and ball-handling option at a time when depth is being tested.

Hyland has quietly become an important contributor in that rotation, averaging 8.4 points, 2.0 assists and 1.4 rebounds through the first five games of the series.

He is coming off his best performance in Game 5, scoring 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting after struggling from 3-point range in Game 4.

Still, the growing injury list underscores the challenges facing the Timberwolves heading into Game 6.

Kyle Anderson’s Role Extends Beyond the Box Score

While Anderson’s numbers in this series have been modest — averaging 0.8 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists across five games — his impact is often felt in less visible ways.

He serves as a connector in Minnesota’s offense, facilitating ball movement and providing defensive versatility across multiple positions.

If he is unable to play, the Timberwolves lose one of their most reliable stabilizers — particularly important with other injuries already affecting the rotation.

Minnesota Faces Rotation Questions Without Key Pieces

With Anderson uncertain and Edwards already ruled out, Minnesota may need to adjust quickly.

The Timberwolves could be forced to:

  • Tighten their rotation
  • Expand roles for bench contributors
  • Lean more heavily on primary ball-handlers

Hyland’s availability offers a potential boost in that regard, particularly as a scoring spark and secondary playmaker, but it may not fully offset the loss of Anderson’s all-around presence if he is unable to suit up.

Game 6 Stakes Amplify Injury Uncertainty

Game 6 carries significant weight for both teams, and availability could play a decisive role.

Minnesota already faces a challenge without Edwards. Losing Anderson — even in a limited capacity — would add another layer of difficulty.

Final Decision Expected at Tipoff

Anderson’s status is expected to come down to the final moments before tipoff.

Until then, the Timberwolves are left preparing for multiple scenarios — one with a key rotational piece, and one without.

Either way, the injury report has grown.

And for Minnesota, the timing could not be worse.
