As the San Antonio Spurs having the best record since Feb 1, Victor Wembanyama was named Player of the Week amid his rapidly rising MVP odds.

The NBA has announced that Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is the Player of the Week in the Western Conference for week 20 of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Wembanyama led San Antonio to a 4-0 record while putting up averages of 26 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks in that span. At the same time, his MVP odds have been surging recently, now having the third-best odds to win the league’s most prestigious regular-season award.

Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.

Victor Wembanyama Named NBA Player Of The Week

Starting on Tuesday, Wembanyama led the Spurs to a 40-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers. He finished with only ten points, eight rebounds, four assists, but also had three steals and six blocks in the team’s biggest win of the season.

San Antonio then had a strong win over the top of the East Detroit Pistons. The near seven and a half foot tall center finished the Thursday night game with 38 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, and five blocks in one of the best performances through his first three NBA seasons.

The Spurs followed that up with a 25-point comeback win over the Los Angeles Clippers, one that saw Wembanyama emotional after the largest comeback in the NBA this year. He ended the game with 27 points, ten rebounds, and four blocks.

To close out the week on Sunday, Wembanyama helped lead San Antonio to a 25-point win over the Houston Rockets, as he had another strong outing with 29 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

The Spurs have gone 15-1 since the start of February, including an 11-game win streak, only losing to the New York Knicks in a recent NBA Cup Final rematch.

Victor Wembanyama MVP Odds

While there were questions both about Wembanyama’s health and ensuing availability, as well as his game-changing impact on the court this season, he’s answered all of those questions and more in stride this season. As San Antonio has held one of the top records in the NBA over the course of the entire year, Wembanyama has emerged as a top candidate for the MVP award, currently one of the favorites, and likely to earn at least a few votes this season.

According to DraftKings, Wembanyama currently has +1000 odds to win the award. He is still behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic, but recently passed Cade Cunningham after this last week, to now have the third-highest odds to take home the MVP.

“I know I’m in MVP conversations. Of course it’s one of my goals,” Wembanyama said recently. “The main argument for that is team success, but I’m also conscious that I need to press the gas a little bit in the last games of the season.”

Should both Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic each miss a few more games, Wembanyama would become the favorite to win the MVP this season. In the relatively unlikely world in which that happens, he would pass up Derrick Rose in 2011 to become the youngest MVP in NBA history.

With how well he’s been playing recently, and his impact on winning and the Spurs’ strong record, him winning MVP certainly can’t be ruled out.

The Spurs hold a 47-17 record, are second in the West, and have already clinched a playoff spot.

On the season, Wembanyama is averaging 23.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and three blocks on 50.5/35/81.7 shooting splits. Even if he doesn’t win the MVP award, San Antonio’s franchise star leads the NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds, currently a -1000 favorite to win that award this season.

Wemby will likely be a favorite to win DPOY as long as he remains healthy for the rest of his NBA career.
