The Atlanta Falcons are primed for a busy offseason of work. The team made its first big decision when it hired Kevin Stefanski as its new head coach after firing Raheem Morris in the wake of the 2025 campaign. While Stefanski is beginning to fill out his coaching staff, the front office is looking ahead to free agency, where a big decision involving tight end Kyle Pitts awaits them.
The first five seasons of Pitts’ career have been filled with highs and lows, but he turned in arguably his best campaign in 2025. With free agency looming for Pitts, his future in Atlanta is currently unclear. However, it appears he’s open to returning to the Falcons, as he made his thoughts on the team’s decision to hire Stefanski very clear.
Kyle Pitts Loves Falcons’ Decision to Hire Kevin Stefanski
Big things were expected from Pitts when the Falcons selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. And while he’s been solid, he hasn’t reached the heights many folks expected from him. Pitts has been selected to just one Pro Bowl, which came back during his rookie season in 2021. Inconsistent quarterback play hasn’t helped, but Pitts has gone M.I.A. far too often throughout the start of his career.
In 2025, Pitts showed a bit more consistency within Atlanta’s offense, as he caught a career-high 88 passes for 928 yards and five touchdowns. What the future holds for him, though, is unknown, especially with a new staff led by Stefanski taking over. Pitts appears open to a reunion, but he understands that the NFL is a business at the end of the day.
Throughout his time as the Cleveland Browns‘ head coach, Stefanski always made an effort to get his tight ends involved on offense. Should Pitts return to the Falcons, he’d likely do so as a key piece of the offense. While Pitts is keeping all his options open, he sounded excited about the possibility of teaming up with Stefanski in Atlanta.
“That’d be dope,” Pitts said of potentially playing for Stefanski on “Why Is Draymond Green Talking About Football?” “To see what he’s done in the past is great.”

What the Falcons end up doing with Pitts is likely going to be one of their most important decisions of the offseason. Pitts is fresh off a strong campaign, which will likely help him earn a big-money deal in free agency. Atlanta simply has to determine how much it wants to commit to Pitts on a long-term deal, but that number may be higher than initially expected, based on his performance in 2025 and the fact that Stefanski is coming to town now.
The Falcons could also place the franchise tag on Pitts in an effort to keep him in town, but again, the price of the tag could dictate how these negotiations unfold. Similar to how things were when it drafted him back in 2021, Atlanta will likely be banking on Pitts to improve if it signs him to a new deal. With Stefanski now in place, figuring out the situation with Pitts is perhaps the next most important item on the team’s offseason to-do list.
