The Atlanta Falcons haven’t been shy when it comes to changing things up this offseason. Their front office and coaching staff have both been completely revamped, and they have added some talented players on both sides of the ball through free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. For the most part, the Falcons have made their major offseason moves already, but the new-look front office is still looking to tune up the team’s depth chart.

One area you can never have too much depth at is the offensive line, and even though Atlanta has a solid group at this spot, it is still aiming to bring some new faces to town. It appears the Falcons have managed to do just that, as it appears former New England Patriots starter Layden Robinson has found his way to town.

Robinson was initially selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he quickly found himself getting thrown into the fire as a rookie. Thanks to the team’s horrid offensive line situation, Robinson found himself suiting up for 13 games, 11 of which were starts. While Robinson held his own, he didn’t play at a particularly high level for the team.

With New England’s offensive line getting revamped, Robinson lost his starting job in 2025, and he eventually ended up getting released by the team in October. The Las Vegas Raiders stashed him on their practice squad, but he didn’t suit up for them at all. While he signed a reserve/future contract in January, Robinson was waived earlier this month.

The Falcons opted to take a closer look at Robinson, as they invited him to town for a tryout during their rookie minicamp. It appears he did enough to earn himself a spot on the roster for the time being, as the team signed him to a contract on Monday morning in the wake of their rookie minicamp wrapping up.

“The Falcons are signing OL Layden Robinson, who participated in their rookie camp this past weekend,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported. “A 2024 fourth-round pick of the Patriots who started 11 games as a rookie, Robinson finds a new home in Atlanta.”

Layden Robinson Set to Compete for Backup Job with Falcons

Robinson has starting experience, which makes him a solid addition for the Falcons, even if he struggled as a rookie. In 2025, Robinson was boxed out by the Pats’ new regime, as Jerod Mayo was fired and replaced by Mike Vrabel as the team’s head coach. And yet, while he wasn’t a fit in Vrabel’s scheme, Robinson still has upside that can be tapped into.

At this point, Robinson is likely competing for a backup job, but even then, the timing of his arrival in town indicates that he is going to face an uphill climb to break the roster out of training camp. Chances are, Robinson will end up being a practice squad candidate, where his previous starting experience would make him a valuable extra layer of depth for the team.
