There are going to be heated moments at training camp, as they do all the time. Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson, though, had a moment where he reached his breaking point.
The Athletic Ravens reporter Jeff Zrebiec shared his observations from the team’s practice on Thursday. He shared how Jackson showed some emotion after a bad moment with the offense.
“Lamar Jackson showed some frustration Thursday, spiking his helmet to the ground after the game clock hit zero without the Ravens being able to get off another play in a two-minute drill. Jackson hit Smythe down the seam, but the veteran tight end was touched down just outside of the end zone with about six seconds left. Jackson and the rest of the offense hustled to the line of scrimmage, but the clock hit zero before they could snap the ball.”

This was bound to happen with some new starters on the offensive line and a new coaching staff. Jackson and his teammates are learning how offensive coordinator Declan Doyle calls plays.
Also, a big thing in training camp is working on the route and receiver chemistry with the quarterback. Jackson needs time to develop with the pass catches to ensure there are no issues in Week 1.
That’s why training camp is over five weeks long. It gives each NFL team time to develop and grow with each other.
So far, the Ravens’ offense has had some ups and downs throughout the last two weeks. Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane has been a pleasant surprise with how good he’s doing with the offense. Tight end Mark Andrews has dealt with some drop issues over the last two weeks.

While everyone around him has to step up to the plate, it’s ultimately on Jackson to make sure everyone is lined up correctly. Mistakes are going to be made, and that needs to be okay with him.
His getting mad about the mistake is a good thing, though. It shows that he is fully committed to the Ravens’ offense being the best version they can be, no matter if it is practice.
This is merely a small bump on the road to something special being built in Baltimore. Jackson has all the weapons around him to be a great unit and the team to make a run in the playoffs. Work through the kinks now so that when the regular season starts, Jackson and the rest of the team will be ready.
