The Baltimore Ravens got in the win column in Week 2, cruising to a 41-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns after suffering a crushing 41-40 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. While the Ravens ended up destroying the Browns, they do have some holes that need to be fixed on their roster, and the front office has remained hard at work heading into Week 3.

On Tuesday, Baltimore was dealt an unexpected blow when the Carolina Panthers poached center Nick Samac off their practice squad to help reinforce their offensive line. With the Ravens having an open spot on their practice squad, they are bringing a familiar face back to town in the wake of losing Samac.

Ravens Sign Malik Hamm After Losing Nick Samac

Baltimore selected Samac in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has been working on developing him behind the scenes over the past year or so. After spending the entire year on the practice squad last season, that’s where Samac found himself to begin the new campaign. With the Panthers needing help on their o-line, though, they signed Samac to their active roster, giving him a shot to make his NFL debut in the near future.

With Samac gone, Baltimore decided to use their vacant practice squad spot on linebacker Malik Hamm. After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Hamm found his way to the Ravens, but he ended up losing his first two seasons in the pros to knee injuries. Baltimore didn’t give up on him, though, and he ended up putting together a strong body of work over the offseason.

Hamm didn’t crack the team’s initial 53-man roster, but he did make their practice squad. However, he ended up getting released last week in order to make room for wide receiver Cornelius Johnson. With Samac gone now, the Ravens once again have room for Hamm, which led the two sides to reunite on Tuesday.

Baltimore brought back outside linebacker and Baltimore native Malik Hamm to their practice squad. After earning a spot on the team’s initial practice squad, Hamm was released last week when the Ravens signed wide receiver Cornelius Johnson,” Clifton Brown wrote for the team’s official website.

The Ravens lost center Nick Samac from the practice squad after the Carolina Panthers signed him to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. The Panthers lost starting center Austin Corbett and starting guard Robert Hunt to major injuries on Sunday.

At the end of the day, these are purely depth moves for the Ravens, as Samac likely wasn’t going to find his way onto the field for the team unless something went seriously wrong this year. That is also true for Hamm, but in the event something does go wrong, it’s important for Baltimore to have all of its bases covered.

While the front office continues tinkering with the roster, the Ravens will begin preparing for their Week 3 action. They have another big game on their slate, as they will be taking on one of the top contenders in the NFC, the Detroit Lions, on Monday Night Football. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this ended up being one of the top matchups of the week.
