The Buffalo Bills have made one of the final lingering decisions about their new stadium — and decided to go big.
The team made waves when initial renderings of the stadium showed a larger-than-life bison statue outside the venue, but it was not clear if the team would follow through with creating the massive structures. In a new announcement shared on Tuesday, the Bills revealed that they are following through on the initial promise of enormous bison, leaving some fans thrilled.
Bills Adding Giant Bison Statues Outside New Stadium
In a message posted on social media, the Bills shared images of three giant bison outside the stadium and gave details of their enormous size.
“The installation will feature three bison: a bull, cow and calf—symbolizing family,” the report noted. “The bull will stand an impressive 27 feet tall and stretch 29 feet in length, weighing approximately 23,000 pounds and creating a commanding presence at the entrance to Family Circle. For perspective, Bills quarterback Josh Allen stands 6-foot-5, making the bull more than four times Allen’s height.”
The statues won’t just be static representations of the city’s namesake, the report added.
“At night, the statues will come to life with five programmable lighting systems,” the team shared. “The bull and cow have been uniquely designed to emit smoke through their nostrils, evoking the image of breath in a Western New York winter.”
Bills Fans React to Stadium Announcement
Many Bills fans had become strong advocates for the statues, imploring the team to follow through on the initial designs. Tuesday’s announcement was met with enthusiasm from those fans.
“THEY ARE HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,” one fan shared in a post on X.
But others questioned the aesthetics of the statues, which differed from the original renderings when the art was still just a concept.
“I mean they’re massive which is great, but design is so weird,” another wrote.
Frank Cravotta, the team’s senior vice president of design and stadium operations, said there was quite a bit of thought that went into their design and placement.
“I didn’t expect just how complex the engineering and fabrication would be for these statues. The sculptures are very large and one-of-a-kind,” Cravotta said.
The team added that the bison statues have been part of the plans since the stadium was first announced, and Cravotta said they were meant to point to the future of the franchise
“Like the progressive design of our stadium, the Bisons help us look ahead to the future,” Cravotta said.
The Bills have been releasing other information about the unveiling of the new stadium later this year, including a patch that players will wear at home games commemorating the new home. The team’s official website shared some details about the patch.
“Centered around the team’s iconic charging buffalo, the circular crest features a stylized render of the stadium, symbolizing a new home for football in Western New York. The logo will appear as a jersey patch for the first home game of the 2026 season, marking the next era of Buffalo Bills football.”
