The Buffalo Bills are sharing condolences with veteran defensive tackle Ed Oliver after a tragedy in his family.
Oliver’s two-year-old son died in June after an accident at the defensive tackle’s home in Houston. The Bills released a statement to Oliver on Saturday, shortly after news of the toddler’s tragic death was confirmed.
Bills Grieve With Ed Oliver’s Family
In a statement posted to their X account, Bills general manager Brandon Beane shared a heartfelt statement to Oliver.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Beane stated. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”
The Houston Chronicle shared details of the death of Oliver’s son, noting that it was an accident in late June at his home.
“The drowning occurred June 28 at Oliver’s Huffman-area home. Authorities did not publicly identify the child at the time,” the report noted. “The toddler was found unresponsive in the pool and rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At least one other child at the home was not injured, a Harris County Sheriff’s Office detective said.”
Ed Oliver Not With Bills for Saturday’s Game
Oliver returned to the Bills for the start of training camp at the end of July, earning good reviews for his work after an injury-shortened 2025 season. He suffered a bicep injury and was placed on injured reserve in October, remaining there until the start of the playoffs, when he was able to rejoin the team.
Oliver was not with the team as they traveled to Cleveland for joint practices with the Browns on Thursday, followed by a preseason game against the Browns on Saturday. Syracuse.com reporter Matt Parrino noted that Oliver was recovering from an injury.
“Oliver did not make the trip to Cleveland as he continues to deal with an injury that’s forced him out of practice the past few days,” Parrino shared in a post on X.
