After the Buffalo Bills fired Sean McDermott, they did a thorough search to find a new head coach. However, they didn’t need to look far as they ultimately promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady for the job.
While the decision was met with some backlash following the move, and fans didn’t appreciate how the Bills handled McDermott’s exit, Brady made sure to give the former head coach his flowers.
“I want to thank and recognize Sean McDermott,” Brady said during his introductory press conference on January 29. “In 2022, four years ago, Coach McDermott gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. I had an opportunity to come here, coach for the Buffalo Bills, and coach Josh Allen.

“I took immense pride in that. Over the past four years, I’ve learned a tremendous amount of things from Coach McDermott. How to lead. Resilience. Standards…. I love Coach McDermott and I’m going to do everything I can to continue to build upon the things he laid and the foundation he laid.”
Brady’s first presser as head coach had multiple emotional moments, but he couldn’t back tears while discussing his wife, Lauren Brady.

The 36-year-old coach knows it’s going to take everything he’s got to succeed as head coach of the Bills, a franchise desperate to win their first Super Bowl.
Brady’s wife, Lauren, whom he married on June 25 2022, was at the press conference on Thursday.
“This job demands sacrifice, right? I’m calling you on the way to a game while you’re going into labor. I find out after the game, you’ve give birth by yourself. This game takes away time, energy, and presence from you.”
“And you’ve carried the weight that comes with this job so that I can pursue my calling,” Brady continued. “Your strength, your belief and your steadiness is the foundation that allows me to do what I do. You’ve believed me long before this moment has arrived. I’m nothing without you and I iwll never get anywhere in life without you.”
The Bradys share two children together, a son and a daughter. Their son was born in 2023, while their daughter arrived in 2025.

Brady understand that his new job comes with high expectations. “I’m embracing it, I’m understand it and I’m meeting it full on,” he said.
He also gave a shoutout to the fans. “The pride and passion of the Buffalo Bills is second to none. Bills Mafia, I feel it. I’ve felt it… I believe in the Bills Mafia, I have so much respect for it. And I want to do everything I can to continue to earning their respect on and putting something on the field that they are proud of.”
