The Buffalo Bills are fighting to keep themselves alive in the AFC East race after picking up a massive victory over the New England Patriots in Week 15. Head coach Sean McDermott and his crew grinded out an ugly win in Week 16 over the Cleveland Browns, but at the end of the day, a win is a win. The problem, though, is that superstar quarterback Josh Allen suffered a foot injury along the way.
Allen appeared to tweak his foot late in the first half against the Browns, and while he finished the game, concerns began to arise after he popped up on the injury report this week. On Friday, McDermott clarified Allen’s status for the team’s upcoming Week 17 action, and it’s an update that will surely make Bills fans happy.
Josh Allen is Good to Go for the Bills in Week 17
Things haven’t always gone the Bills’ way this season, as evidenced by the fact that they have ceded control of the division to the Patriots. As the weather has gotten colder, though, Allen’s play under center has only gotten better for Buffalo. During the team’s recent four-game win streak, Allen has thrown for 697 yards and seven touchdowns, while also rushing for 181 yards and another pair of scores.
Even if Buffalo doesn’t end up winning the division, it is expected to be the top Super Bowl contender in the AFC this postseason. With perennial contenders like the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals all on track to miss the playoffs entirely, this could be the Bills’ easiest path to the Super Bowl during Allen’s time under center.
If they can win the division, though, that would go a long way towards helping the team accomplish its primary goal this season. Having Allen on the field at all times is going to be crucial for Buffalo, which is why any injury concerns could immediately cause problems for the team. Thankfully for the Bills, though, McDermott revealed that Allen will be able to suit up for the team in Week 17.
“Coach McDermott on WGR 550 said that Josh Allen (foot) has gotten better each day this week, is trending in the right direction and will be ready to play on Sunday,” Bills reporter Chris Brown wrote in a post on X.

At this stage of the game, Buffalo needs to win out and hope New England slips up over its final two games when it comes to its hopes of winning the division. The problem for the Bills is that the Patriots finish their regular-season campaign with contests against the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, who aren’t exactly an imposing pair of opponents.
Making matters even worse for Buffalo is the fact that it has a tough matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. Similar to the Bills, the Eagles haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders this year, but they have been playing their best football as of late. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, and with the stakes being very high, this could end up being one of the best games of the weekend.
