The Chicago Bears are entering the next chapter of the Caleb Williams/Ben Johnson era as they look to build on a very strong end to the season that saw them produce a come-from-behind win against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, before pushing the LA Rams to overtime before finally falling 20-17 in the Divisional Round.
The Bears also said goodbye to their top wideout over the past few years in D.J. Moore, whom the team acquired back in 2023 as part of the deal that saw Chicago move back from the no. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to the no. 8 spot, switching places with the Carolina Panthers who ultimately selected quarterback Bryce Young.
And Chicago will also wave goodbye to another former receiver on Aug. 24, as the team’s former WR Allen Robinson announced on Monday that he was officially retiring from the NFL, per Jordan Schultz.
Robinson finishes his outstanding career with 565 catches, 7,058 yards, and 43 TDs.

After starting his professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a second round pick out of Penn State back in 2014 with a bang, Robinson missed all but one game of the 2017 season with a torn ACL.
The Bears took a shot on Robinson the following offseason, signing him to a fairly lucrative three-year $42 million free agent deal.
And Chicago’s faith was paid back in spades. Robinson recorded 3,151 receiving yards over the course of his first three seasons in Illnois, including a majestic 102-catch, 1,250 yard receiving season in 2020 that somehow did not see him get elected to the Pro Bowl or All-Pro teams.
2021 saw Robinson’s play take a slight dip as he entered the eighth year of his NFL career – now playing on the franchise tag – aged just 28 years old, as the Detroit native managed 410 receiving yards and one touchdown on the season.
Nevertheless, Robinson managed to extract a large deal the following season from the LA Rams, who paid him to the tune of a three-year $46.5 million deal. However middling production in a season that was cut short by a foot injury saw the Pro Bowler get cut after just one season.
Subsequent spells in Pittsburgh and Detroit in 2023 and 2024 in bit part roles – especially with the Lions – saw him sit out the entirety of the 2025 season. Now, on the eve of the commencement of the 2026 season, Robinson is officially calling it a day with his NFL career.
Robinson was a far better player than his sole Pro Bowl would suggest, and Bears fans will not forget his immense 42-yard reception against the at-the-time best cornerback in football in Jalen Ramsey back in 2019.
Having made over $96 million over the course of his 11 years in the league, he can now (hopefully) enjoy his much-deserved retirement riding off into the sun.
