The Cleveland Browns, after firing head coach Kevin Stefanski, have embarked on one of the more confusing searches for a new leader in recent memory. No true frontrunner has emerged for the Browns yet, largely because of the lack of interest the job seems to be generating among potential candidates.
With only a handful of coaches in consideration for the position, every development with every candidate is all the more important. One guy who Cleveland has shown quite a bit of interest in is Los Angeles Rams‘ pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, but they could be set to miss out on him, too, as the Buffalo Bills appear to be showing interest in him as well.
Bills Set to Interview Nate Scheelhaase Immediately After Browns Interview
The head coach carousel has taken another turn on Monday in the wake of the Rams and Denver Broncos getting eliminated from the playoffs. Now that they are no longer competing for a Super Bowl, that has allowed the Bills to meet with two of the top remaining head coach candidates, Scheelhaase and Broncos pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb.
Shortly after Denver was eliminated from the playoffs, Buffalo announced that it had interviewed Webb for its head coach opening, which seemed to indicate it was locking in on him as its top target. However, Webb is also interviewing for the Las Vegas Raiders head coach gig, so that means the Bills still have work to do.
That led the team to quickly pivot and request an interview with Scheelhaase. This is notable for the Browns because reports indicated that Scheelhaase was emerging as one of the favorites to land their head coach gig. Now, the team will have to wait and see what happens with him and the Bills, as the two sides are set to meet on Monday night.
“Buffalo Bills now have requested to interview Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase for their head coach job, per source,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X. “Scheelhaase currently is interviewing in person for the Cleveland Browns head coach job, with the Bills now on deck.”
Should the Browns Be Concerned About Latest Nate Scheelhaase Development?

Cleveland finds itself in a tricky spot with its head coach search, as it isn’t viewed as a particularly desirable landing spot across the league. With so few candidates in the running at this point, the Browns don’t have a lot of options. That has left them hoping that Scheelhaase doesn’t somehow end up landing the Bills’ job, which seems to be the opening that everyone is waiting to see get filled.
Considering the timing of this move, it doesn’t seem like Scheelhaase is Buffalo’s top target, but as this head coach carousel has shown, anything can happen. The Browns may need to begin finding more candidates to target because Scheelhaase landing with the Bills or any other team would leave them out to dry. Right now, though, all the team can do is wait and hope that Scheelhaase doesn’t land with another franchise.
