Shedeur Sanders weighed in on the noise surrounding Cleveland’s quarterback situation with a pointed social media post.

The Browns quarterback shared a lengthy statement on his platforms that read, in part: “Think about a person’s opinion… in the grand scheme of life, it means nothing. We often give opinions power when we react to them and make them seem valuable.”

The post continued: “Those who move through life with foul intentions will eventually face the consequences of their ways. The people who truly align with you will understand this perspective. In the end, as long as you’re walking in your purpose, GOD should be the only one you seek to please.”

Sanders message seemed to be in response to a report from Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. In late April, Cabot reported that Deshaun Watson had emerged from voluntary minicamp with an edge over Sanders in the Browns’ quarterback competition. Cabot, who has covered the Browns for decades, then went further on social media.

“With my breaking news here that Deshaun Watson has taken the lead over Shedeur Sanders in the Browns QB competition and has the inside track to win it, I think they should declare him QB1 asap and let the 1st team offense start to cook,” Cabot said. “There’s no time to waste.”

Monken: Shedeur Should Be Unbothered by Report

Shedeur’s older brother, Shilo Sanders, responded publicly with a controversial Instagram comment directed at Cabot: “Go make a sandwich, Mary.”

Rather than apologize, Shilo Sanders went online and expanded his criticism of Cabot, accusing her of harboring an agenda against his brother.

“If you’re gonna be a reporter, be a reporter and report facts,” Shilo said, according to NBC Sports. “Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, then it makes it seem like it’s something weird. Like it’s an agenda that you have going on.”

Browns head coach Todd Monken addressed the situation during an appearance on 92.3 The Fan, where he was asked whether the controversy would prompt him to speak to his quarterbacks about the distractions social media can create.

“If that’s going to bother me or it’s going to bother Shedeur or Deshaun, they have no chance of being either the head coach here or the quarterback at the Cleveland Browns,” Monken said. “I mean, for God’s sake, it’s the world we live in.”

Shedeur Sanders Called for ‘New Energy’ From Media at Minicamp

At the Browns’ voluntary veteran minicamp, Sanders spoke directly to reporters in Berea and asked them to shift their approach along with the team.

“It’s a new vibe. It’s a new energy. The only thing we missing is y’all,” Sanders told reporters. “We need y’all to have a new vibe, new energy. I know y’all want us to win, so we need some winning energy here.”

“We can’t have too much negativity going on and, you know, you want our players to be the best version of ourselves for y’all,” he continued.

Sanders started seven games as a rookie, throwing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
