The Dallas Cowboys recently signed Super Bowl champion edge rusher Von Miller. The team could also still signed veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who the Cowboys hosted on a free-agent visit this week.
That hasn’t stopped pundits from linking Dallas to a high-profiled veteran inside linebacker.
Bleacher Report’s named the Cowboys a top landing spot for that inside linebacker. Cowboys fans should be familiar with the name because pundits have linked him to the team throughout the offseason. He’s also a 11-time All-Pro — Bobby Wagner.
“The Cowboys may not be viewed as title contenders, but they have an improved defense, could use help at the second level, and have a Wagner fan in head coach Brian Schottenheimer—who spent time with the future Hall of Famer in Seattle,” wrote Knox.
“‘You’re looking at one of the biggest Bobby Wagner fans in the world,’ Schottenheimer told Kay Adams of Up & Adams in March. ‘…I love that guy.'”

Knox calling on the Cowboys to sign Wagner is just the latest in a long line of pundits urging Dallas to make that move. It’s not hard to see why.
While the Cowboys acquired inside linebacker Dee Winters this offseason, Winters doesn’t have the resume Wagner does.
Wagner turned 36 years old in June. That’s likely the reason he remains a free agent. But he’s a 10-time Pro Bowler and 11-time All-Pro who is still a tackling machine.
In 2025, he registered 162 combined tackles, including 79 solos with the Washington Commanders. Wagner also had eight tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, four pass defenders, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions in 17 games last season.
With Dallas, Wagner could offer a short-term solution in the middle of a defense desperately just trying to get to the middle of the pack. With the Cowboys offense, they could quickly turn into a contender if the defense jumps up from the bottom of the league.
Dallas Still Considering Defensive Upgrades
On one hand, if the Cowboys were seriously interested in Wagner, the signing would have already happened. The team is only a little more than a week away from the roster cutdown day, which will require Dallas to trim its roster to 53 players.
Then again, the Cowboys have shown a willingness to still add defensive star power this month.
On August 17, the Cowboys signed edge rusher Von Miller to a 1-year contract. The team also hosted veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson for a workout last week.
Granted, that’s no indication the Cowboys are interested in Wagner. But clearly, the team isn’t sitting on its hands, satisfied with its current projected defensive depth chart.
Wagner began his career with the Seattle Seahawks as a 2012 second-round pick. He won the Super Bowl with the Seahawks during his second season and then earned his first first-team All-Pro nomination during 2014.
That started a run of 11 straight All-Pro campaigns that wasn’t snapped until last season.
In addition to the Seahawks and Commanders, Wagner has also played for the Los Angeles Rams.
