There is plenty to get excited about at Dallas Cowboys training camp, but it’s becoming clear there are some standouts.
Dallas’ offense is off to a fast start with the passing game looking really good, led by quarterback Dak Prescott. Throughout the past week, Prescott has already been in midseason form with his connections with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys have had other standouts from the playmakers, but one is starting to emerge from the others. After a quietly great 2025 season, he might be ready to explode onto the scene for Dallas in the new year.
Dallas Cowboys Have a Weapon That’s Dominating Training Camp

ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer shared his observations from their latest training camp practice on Thursday. Tight end Jake Ferguson is starting to put together a string of great performances.
“Tight end Jake Ferguson is off to a strong start in camp. He and Prescott have had a clear connection on the intermediate and seam throws, and they connected four times Thursday with one completion coming on a “free” play when the defense jumped early that led to a decent gain.”
Ferguson made his second Pro Bowl in the last three seasons in 2025. He finished with 82 receptions for 600 yards and 8 touchdowns. His receptions and touchdown mark from 2025 were career highs for him.

Pickens and Lamb are always going to be the top guys in the passing game no matter what. Prescott has had quite a rapport with those guys.
With that being said, Ferguson is clearly the number three target in this offense. He’s the guy that Prescott will look to in the goal line for a short touchdown catch.
Ferguson is able to do so much in this offense other than catching the football. He has improved as a blocker, which showed last season with the Cowboys getting better at running the football.
There were a lot of people who questioned the Cowboys’ decision to give Ferguson a four-year, $50 million contract extension. No one is balking at that move anymore, as he is earning every dollar he got as part of the deal.
Dallas is entering the 2026 season with one of the best offenses in the NFL from top to bottom. The passing game has everything Prescott needs to be successful. He has top receivers, a solid offensive line, an improved running game, and a versatile tight end.
Ferguson has a chance to have a monster 2026 season as the Cowboys continue to stick with passing the football. Could this be the season that he exceeds 1,000 yards receiving in a season?
