The Dallas Cowboys remain confident in Dak Prescott as the leader of their franchise moving forward.

At 32 years old, Prescott remains a highly productive quarterback. Last season with the Cowboys, he played in all 17 regular season games and completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while also running for 177 yards and two more scores.

Seeing those numbers make it clear why Dallas is comfortable with Prescott. However, the team could consider a young quarterback with the potential to be a long-term option.

Prescott isn’t getting any younger. He could still have six or seven good years of football in front of him, but that isn’t a guarantee. Jerry Jones would likely have interest in landing a potential starting quarterback to back up Prescott if one becomes available.

Keeping that in mind, the Cowboys have been linked to a potential move for that kind of signal caller.

Cowboys Named Potential Suitor for Brendan Sorsby

One of the big storylines in sports lately has been the news surrounding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

His college eligibility is in limbo after news came out of him betting on games back in the 2022 season when he was with the Indiana Hoosiers. There is a chance he could still be allowed to play college football, but he might be denied that opportunity as well.

Should he be unable to continue his college career, Sorsby would likely enter the NFL Supplemental Draft.

If that scenario becomes a reality, Dallas has been named as one of the teams to watch by Matt Johnson of SportsNaut.

“This would also be a return home for the 23-year-old quarterback, who starred at Lake Dallas High School in Denton, Texas,” Johnson wrote.

“Sorsby would have the opportunity to learn from Dak Prescott for two-plus years before potentially taking over as the Cowboys starting quarterback in 2028. It might cost Jerry Jones sacrificing a Day 2 pick, but he’s made more aggressive moves with draft capital before for worse players.”

Brendan Sorsby Has Legitimate NFL Starting Potential

Many early 2027 mock drafts have suggested that Sorsby could be a first-round pick. Plenty of teams would have interest in him if he enters the Supplemental Draft.

Sorsby is coming off of a 2025 college season with the Cincinnati Bearcats where he completed 61.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also ran for 580 yards and nine additional touchdowns.

Throughout his entire four-year college career, two seasons coming at Indiana and the last two at Cincinnati, he has totaled 7,208 passing yards, 60 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. Sorsby has also tallied 1,305 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.

On the outside looking in, landing Sorsby would be an intriguing opportunity for the Cowboys. Whether or not they’ll have the opportunity to bring him in remains to be seen.
