Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets announced signing former Detroit Lions wide receiver Tim Patrick.

The New York Jets have added another former Detroit Lions player. This time, Aaron Glenn and the Jets signed an ex-Lions offensive contributor.

The Jets announced Thursday they signed veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick. In a corresponding move, New York released kicker Will Ferrin.

Patrick spent one season in Detroit, which was Glenn’s final campaign with the Lions. In 2024, Patrick caught 33 passes for 394 yards with three touchdowns. He received credit for starting nine games that season.

Last year, Patrick appeared in 16 games, starting three of them, for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 15 receptions, 187 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

In New York, Patrick has a previous connection with Glenn, who has made a habit of bringing in former members of the Lions organization, and former Denver Broncos executive Darren Mougey.

“General manager Darren Mougey was in Denver when Patrick (32) started his professional career,” wrote Newyorkjets.com’s Eric Allen. “The Utah product, who went undrafted in 2017, signed with the Broncos and played four seasons in Denver.”

Patrick spent six years with the Denver Broncos before signing with the Lions.

In just a little more than a year with the Lions, Glenn has hired several former Detroit assistant coaches to his staff. With Patrick, Glenn and the Jets have brought in a former Lions player.

Patrick began his career as an undrafted free agent for the Baltimore Ravens in 2017. However, he didn’t last with the Ravens through July.

For the 2017 preseason, Patrick joined the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers, though, also waived the receiver before the regular season.

Patrick got his first in-season opportunity with the Broncos during October 2017. He didn’t play as a rookie, but Patrick made his NFL debut in Denver the following season.

In four seasons with the Broncos, Patrick posted 143 catches, 2,009 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

Patrick stayed with the Broncos through 2023. But the receiver didn’t appear in the regular season during 2022 or 2023 because of injuries.

In August 2022, Patrick suffered a torn ACL at practice. During July 2023, he sustained a torn Achilles on the practice field.

The Lions signed Patrick to their practice squad after the 2024 preseason.

Ex-Lions DC Aaron Glenn on the Hot Seat With Jets in 2026?

Glenn had a strong stint as the Lions defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Campbell. During Glenn’s final season, Detroit posted the best record in the NFL at 15-2.

But the former defensive coordinator had a rough first season in New York.

Last fall, the Jets went 3-14 last fall in a campaign that many thought could lead to Glenn’s dismissal after just one year.

This spring, a lot of pundits have included Glenn on their NFL head coaching hot seats. SB Nation’s James Dator placed Glenn on his list of six head coaches on the hot seat to start 2026.

“Glenn’s first season with the Jets was abysmal, leading the team to a 3-14 record. It won’t take a lot to keep this job because it’s only his second season, but if the Jets win four or fewer games in 2026 it’s fair that the front office could hit the panic button,” wrote Dator.

“In order to prevent this he’ll simply need to show some sort of progress that could be indicative of Glenn being able to turn this team around. Let’s say that’s 5+ wins in 2026. It’s more about building the culture than anything else, and if that doesn’t seem to be happening then the Jets could easily change directions.”
