The Detroit Lions managed to even up their preseason record at 1-1 thanks to their recent victory over the Washington Commanders at Ford Field, and they’re now in preparations for their final tune-up game against the Indianapolis Colts this coming Saturday.
However, the Lions remain short several key players owing to various health ailments, and the latest update concerning a pair of first-year Lions veterans is not encouraging.
According to the Lions, both running back Raheem Blackshear and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson have been placed on injured reserve; in a corresponding move, they’ve also signed DB Jason Taylor and RB Roydell Williams.

The injury to Blackshear, who spent three seasons with the Carolina Panthers and was signed by the Lions earlier this month, hasn’t been disclosed yet. He was active on Saturday against the Commanders, and he accumulated 29 yards on 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Campbell openly expressed worry about Wilson’s knee injury, which was suffered on Saturday.
“I don’t know for sure. I’m worried, I’m worried on that one. I love Wilson, man,” Campbell said afterward. “He’s just a smart, crafty football player. Gets it, can play all the spots at receiver, special teams. We don’t know. We’re getting that knee looked at. We don’t know, but I’ll leave it at that.”
During the game, Wilson accumulated 21 yards on a pair of receptions. He landed hard on his leg after a catch and later hobbled off the field and did not return.
Both Raheem Blackshear & Cedrick Wilson Are First-Year Lions
Blackshear, whom the Lions signed in early August, has accumulated 203 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 52 carries during his time with the Carolina Panthers. Last season, he spent time on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Earlier this February, he was selected by the Columbus Aviators of the United Football League, but was subsequently released in February.
Meanwhile, Wilson was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (208th overall pick) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He later played two stints with the Miami Dolphins as well as the New Orleans Saints before signing with the Lions in May.
So far in his NFL career, he’s racked up 1,524 receiving yards on 126 receptions with 12 touchdowns.
