As part of their 2025 offseason, the Detroit Lions and general manager Brad Holmes managed to snag one of the more intriguing players available on the open market that comes with valuable Super Bowl-winning experience.

The Lions signed free agent RB Isiah Pacheco, who had spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, to a a contract. He arrives in town as a two-time Super Bowl winner (LVII, LVIII), something that will go a long way in Detroit’s hopes to advance to the title game for the first time in their existence.

And based on what he had to say about signing with the Lions, fans are going to be fired up about the possibilities to come.

Not only is Pacheco fired up to join the Lions, but the fact that he’s already a two-time Super Bowl winner isn’t getting in the way of his ultimate goal in bringing one to Detroit for the first time.

“It felt like home the second I stepped in the doors,” Pacheco said of arriving in Detroit. “I went to three Super Bowls, but I’m unsatisfied. I’m hungry and I’m dying to get back in that environment, especially with this crew here that’s never done it and I want to set history.

“We’re going to challenge each other in that room. We’re going to compete. Every day we’re going to get better. That’s what it’s about. Building competition in the room to make each other better. And it’s going to be fun.”

Meanwhile, Lions GM Brad Holmes referred to Pacheco as an “angry runner”.

“He’s an angry runner,” Holmes said. “He’s got vision. He can cut. He can catch out of the backfield. His ability to break tackles, keep his balance and then still finish. You can just see the relentlessness of him as a football player. Regardless of how fast you are, how much burst you have, you have to know where you’re going first. […] You can see him right here being able to cut off this, press it, go, and then you see him just finish behind his pads.”

The Lions are hoping to return to the NFL postseason after they accumulated a 9-8 record in the recently completed 2025 campaign, and while they ultimately finished with a winning record, they saw their reign atop the NFC North Division come to a close.

Isiah Pacheco Joins The Lions

After the Lions moved on from David Montgomery, there was a hole to fill. They did so by signing Pacheco, who will help compliment Jahmyr Gibbs.

So far in his NFL career, Pacheco has 2,537 yards (4.4 avg.) on 576 rushing attempts, and 14 touchdowns alongside 88 receptions for 554 yards (6.3 avg.) and three receiving touchdowns.

However, the main concern about Pacheco is that injuries have slowed him down over the past two seasons. To begin the 2024 NFL season, he fractured fibula in his right leg during Week 2 against the Bengals, and also suffered an MCL sprain this past season.
