The Green Bay Packers have been nothing but optimistic about Micah Parsons as he recovers from his ACL injury. The initial discussion was that Week 6 would be the earliest he would return. However, General Manager Brian Gutekunst noted after roster cutdowns that Parsons will push their four-week timetable for the Physically Unable to Perform list. New rules allow players to return to practice as soon as Week 2, and Gutekunst did not shut down the idea of him hitting the field at that time.
“We have a pretty good idea; once we get out of that 4-game window, we’re going to be pretty close,” Said Gutekunst. “There’s a new rule this year that we can open the window to practice after the second game. I imagine when that time comes that there’s going to be some conversations about things, as far as what he can and can’t do.”
If Parsons returned to practice, it would open up a three-week window where he could practice without being activated to the roster. So, if he did get on the field after Week 2, the team would be activating him for their Week 5 game against the Chicago Bears at the latest. He might even return before that. This speaks to his progress.
Green Bay Packers Have Positive Update on Micah Parsons

While Gutekunst made it clear that the person pushing the hardest to return is Parsons, it is his job to make sure Parsons does not come back too soon. The team wants to win every game, but the games at the end of the season will matter to them more.
“I’m going to be pretty cautious with that,” said Gutekunst. “He’s really important to what we are trying to do and to accomplish. The goals we want late in the year. We are going to need him to be at his best, so I want to make sure that happens.”
If Parsons returns too soon, the team will have wasted another chance to make a playoff run. They would rather have the down part of their regular season be the start so that they can finish hot than start hot and finish limping to the end like last year.
Packers Hoping to Finish Stronger in 2026
The Packers were 9-3-1 and were on their way to beating the Denver Broncos in Denver to move to 10-3-1 when Parsons got hurt. Green Bay blew the lead against Denver and lost that game. They lost the next three games to finish 9-7-1.
Then, they blew a fourth-quarter lead against their arch-rival Chicago Bears in a playoff loss. They finished on a five-game losing streak, with three straight losses being blown fourth-quarter leads. It was clear the loss of Parsons deflated the team.
If they can manage early and they can get Parsons healthy late, they can be the team that was one of the best in the NFL.
They will also be getting Devonte Wyatt, Tucker Kraft, and Zach Bako-Bewele back from season-ending injuries. The healthier team might be looking to peak later in 2026 than they did in 2025.
