The Green Bay Packers are still facing a few questions following the 2026 NFL Draft. One of those questions comes at the quarterback position.

Brian Gutekunst has yet to seriously address the departure of Malik Willis. After two years of being an elite backup signal caller behind Jordan Love, Willis landed a lucrative three-year, $67.5 million contract from the Miami Dolphins to be their starter.

Losing an elite backup quarterback can be difficult to replace. That being said, the Packers haven’t done anything at the position other than sign undrafted free agent Kyron Drones.

At this point in time, Green Bay would head into training camp with Drones, Desmond Ridder, and Kyle McCord behind Love. None of those names should give the Packers confidence that they have their guy.

Keeping that in mind, Green Bay has been connected as a potential landing spot for an intriguing young quarterback.

Packers Named Potential Fit for Brendan Sorsby

One of the big storylines in the world of sports lately has been that of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. He is currently facing seeing his college eligibility stripped away due to reportedly betting on games back in 2022.

So far, no final resolution has been revealed. Sorsby could still find his way back to play for the Red Raiders, but there is also a chance that the NCAA will not allow that to happen.

If the NCAA doesn’t allow Sorsby to continue playing, he would likely enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. That could allow a team like the Packers to land him.

Matt Johnson of SportsNaut has named Green Bay as one of the top potential suitors fo Sorsby if he does end up taking his talents to the NFL early.

“The Packers are projected to have compensatory picks in Rounds 3 and 4 in the 2027 NFL Draft, which could give general manager Brian Gutekunst the option of sacrificing a third-round pick forfeiture to take Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft,” Johnson wrote.

“They would have four years of contractual control and could develop him for a year before making him Love’s backup in 2027. After that, he’d still only be 24 years old and the Packers could potentially flip him for premium draft capital in the 2028 NFL Draft.”

Brendan Sorsby Has Legitimate NFL Potential

In way-too-early 2027 NFL mock drafts, Sorsby has been viewed as a potential first-round pick. Should he come out this year, teams across the league would have interest in him.

During the 2025 college football season with the Cincinnati Bearcats, he completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He also ran for 580 yards and nine more scores.

Throughout his entire four-year college career, he has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 7,208 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions, while also picking up 1,305 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for Sorsby. The Packers should be one of the teams watching him closely as a potential option.
