Entering the 2026 NFL offseason, it was obvious that the Green Bay Packers would not be able to bring quarterback Malik Willis back. On Monday, that became a reality when Willis agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins.

Willis will be leaving town to join former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. He’ll have an opportunity to earn a full-time starting job, something that he has earned after two years of being a stellar backup quarterback behind Jordan Love.

His hard work and patience paid off with a lucrative three-year, $67.5 million contract.

Fans in Green Bay are going to miss Willis. He became a fan favorite over the last couple of seasons. Whenever he was called upon to play, he was ready and made plays.

Now, with his decision to join the Dolphins, Willis took to social media to send a message to the Packers.

In a post on X, Willis made it clear just how thankful he is for the opportunity that Green Bay gave him. He truly revitalized his NFL career with the Packers.

“Much love and respect to packer nation supporting us and me the past 2 years! It has been awesome upholding the standard for the green and gold,” Willis wrote.

“It has been more than a blessing and i will never forget my time here and the relationships I made! Fins Up.”

He finished off his message by sharing a Bible verse from Matthew 6:33-34.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Willis Had a Special Run with Green Bay

During his first season with the Packers in 2024, Willis played in seven games. He completed 40 of his 54 pass attempts for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Willis also ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Willis was thrown into the starting role after Jordan Love went down with a knee injury in a Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He kept Green Bay in contention during his time as the starter.

Last season in 2025, Willis played in just four games. He threw for 422 yards, three scores, and no interceptions, completing 30 of his 35 passes.

With his tenure on the Packers officially over, Willis’ final game in the green and gold will be a December 27 loss against the Baltimore Ravens. The game didn’t turn out as hoped, but Willis put on a show for the fans at Lambeau Field.

In that game, he completed 18 of his 21 passes for 288 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. He also tore up the Ravens’ defense to the tune of 60 yards and two scores on nine carries.

Hopefully, Willis finds success in Miami. Despite a slow start to his NFL career, he has continued to work hard and is now set to get a much-deserved shot at being a starter.
