The writing is on the wall for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs, but that hasn’t stopped his teammates from holding their breath.

After posting a career-high 724 yards receiving along with six touchdowns, Doubs has seemingly priced himself out of Green Bay as a pending free agent.

To conclude what may be his final year with the Packers, Doubs posted a carousel of photos on Instagram with a message that read like goodbye.

“I am only thankful and grateful,” Doubs wrote, accompanied by a series of photos of his teammates and him. “Another year of ball, and growth. The connectedness and camaraderie goes a long way. God I ask that you guide my steps moving forward.”

While Doubs seems prepared for a big step elsewhere next season, several Packers stars showed their support and potential posturing of hope that a deal to keep him in Green Bay could get done.

Several of Doubs’ fellow receivers commented and showed support for their teammate.

Doubs’ departure became apparent when the Packers selected Matthew Golden in the first round of last year’s draft.

No matter.

Golden replied “Rome 💯🤞🏾,” to Doubs’ post, and the fingers-crossed emoji became the overwhelming sentiment from their teammates.

“Brotha 4L (for life)🤞🏽🙏🏽,” wrote Christian Watson, who also shared the post on his Instagram story with the fingers-crossed emoji.

“My dawg 4L🤞🏾,” Jayden Reed replied.

Tucker Kraft also replied, “Love,” and shared the post.

Third-round rookie Savion Williams also showed his support, commenting “ROMEEE!!!!❤️.”

The overwhelming support from the Packers’ pass catchers shows the bond formed by the young position group that has matured and stayed together for several seasons.

It also highlights the harsh reality that, for a team that has drafted eight receivers in the past four drafts, not all can stick around past their rookie deals.

How Much is Romeo Doubs Asking for From Packers?

As previously mentioned, the Packers have a bevy of receivers still on their rookie contracts, which provides surplus value that makes it hard to warrant paying Doubs.

His performance this season was valued at $13 million, per Over The Cap. Spotrac projected Doubs could garner a four-year, $48 million deal in free agency. The Packers aren’t positioned to commit to a long-term deal of that magnitude, evidenced by their minimal commitment to Watson, a one-year extension signed last year.

Doubs could be more than willing to come down a few million to stay in Green Bay, but it’s the number of years and guarantees that will be tough to match for the Packers.

Green Bay is already invested in younger receivers through the draft, but Doubs’ final game, an eight-catch, 124-yard and a touchdown performance in the playoffs, showed his value to a team.

A former fourth-round pick, Doubs exceeded expectations in Green Bay and earned whatever pay day is ahead for him, either with the Packers or another team come March free agency.
