The Houston Texans revamped their rushing attack this offseason, trading for David Montgomery to pair with Woody Marks. But incumbent Texans back Jawhar Jordan has gotten off to a strong start in training camp.
Jordan was a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft by the Texans.
He emerged as a legitimate contributor amid injuries to Marks, Joe Mixon, and Nick Chubb during the 2025 season and could be poised for more in 2026.
Jawhar Jordan Creating ‘Biggest Buzz’ in Texans Training Camp
The Texans selected Jordan with the 205th overall pick of the draft in 2024. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad after an injury setback during camp that year. Last season, Jordan emerged with 43 carries for 193 yards.
He tallied a 15-101-0 line in Week 15, his first regular-season appearance in his career, against the Arizona Cardinals.
SportsRadio 610’s Reginal Adetula believes Jordan is creating the “biggest buzz” in camp.
“Give me Jawhar Jordan here. He looks about as shifty as you could probably ask. I understand that we’ve talked about depth at running back. I think that he’s looked pretty damn good early on, to the point where I’m not as concerned about what’s happening running back-wise,” Adetula said on the “Texans Collective” podcast in a clip shared on X on August 5. “Jawhar Jordan’s style very much fits what they’re doing, at least in the group there. I kind of like what I’ve seen from him earlier.”
Adetula noted that the Texans have a variety of skill sets in their running back room that should help what ranked 22nd on the ground in 2025. Jordan runs harder than his size might suggest, but it is his big-play ability that stood out the most last season.
That reality was reflected in his production. Jordan rushed for 92 yards on 28 carries over his next three appearances during the regular season.
Jawhar Jordan Gets Help From Team Captain
Jordan is taking advantage of his situation, and possibly showing how the Texans might look to utilize him in the offense this coming season.
He was spotted repping pass routes with Texans Pro Bowl linebacker and team captain Azeez Al-Shaair after a recent practice.
“Azeez is the ultimate mentor [saluting emoji],” Nico Del Frate postedNico Del Frate posted on X on August 5. “Helping Jawhar Jordan with his route running after practice today.”
The Texans will lean on Montgomery and Marks, and they have undrafted rookie free agents Noah Whittington and Joshua Pitsenberger. But the Texans now know what Jordan is capable of. That should facilitate his involvement in the offense earlier this season than last.
The Texans could realistically go from struggling to cobble together their RB room to boasting a three-headed stable.
That would be significant for quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Texans’ passing offense.
The team finished 22nd in rushing yards last season, and they were also 13th in rushing attempts. With their defense, the Texans should have a path to a much higher ranking, both in yards and attempts, this coming season.
