Philip Rivers‘ wife Tiffany Rivers and the couple’s 10 kids stand to benefit from the 44-year-old quarterback’s surprising NFL comeback. The signal-caller did not sign a lucrative contract with the Indianapolis Colts but is still getting some added benefits for his improbable end to his retirement.
Philip signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with Indianapolis, per Spotrac. The veteran quarterback’s health insurance is being extended for an additional five years after his NFL career ends again which is good news for the family.
“He takes a deal to join the Colts’ practice squad, which officially delays his current Hall of Fame chances but also resets his NFL health insurance,” ESPN’s Ryan Hockensmith wrote in a December 22, 2025, story titled, “Inside Philip Rivers’ startling NFL comeback.”
“NFL coverage typically cuts off five years after a player’s last game. For a guy with 10 kids, he’ll take another half a decade of free healthcare.”

The quarterback may have been retired, but Philip has remained busy as both a father and coach. Tiffany and Philip are the proud parents of 10 children along with one grandchild.
The couple’s 10 kids’ ages range from 23 to two: Halle (23), Caroline (20), Grace (19), Gunner (17), Sarah (15), Peter (14), Rebecca (12), Clare (10), Anna (6) and Andrew (2).
Philip is also one of the rare grandfathers to be a current NFL player as the couple became grandparents in 2024.
Philip Rivers Calls Wife Tiffany His ‘Best Friend’
Philip and Tiffany make for a good team amid the large family. The quarterback labels his wife as his “best friend.”
“We’re best friends,” Philip said of Tiffany during a 2019 interview with Chargers.com. “That to me has been the key. Whenever it gets kind of crazy, we’ll figure it out together. She’s awesome.
“Our family wouldn’t be what it is without her. She provides a great steadiness for all of us. She’s great for me also from a football standpoint as far as balancing my energy and passion I have for football. And she’s the same with our family,” Philip added.
“She’s very steady, and she very much lives in the moment. She’s very present. Through all the ups and downs that comes with football, and all the commitments that I obviously have, I can’t imagine doing this without her. There’s no way I could do it without her.”
Tiffany Rivers Was Concerned About Philip Rivers’ Health After Not Playing in the NFL Since the 2020 Season
Philip’s return to the NFL did not come without risks. Prior to his recent signing with the Colts, Philip had not played since the 2020 NFL season which concerned Tiffany.
“My wife has been my biggest fan the whole time I played, and she’s nervous about the physical aspect of it, as you expect any wife to,” Philip told reporters after signing with the Colts, per Yahoo Sports. “… I mean, for 250 games or whatever it was, that was a risk, as you see every week.
“… Dudes are big and fast, just like they were, so I’m just taking it one day at a time. You never hope or expect something like that to happen, but shoot, if something like that happens, I’d have a long time to recover.”
