ould 2025 be the year of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Entering the season with a brand new regime in head coach Liam Coen and general manager James Gladstone, the Jaguars are hungrier than ever for a resurgent season and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. Investing heavily on acquiring talent, it is clear that the mission in Jacksonville is simple– win now.

And as the preseason winds down and the regular season approaches, it looks like the Jaguars will rely heavily on some of their new faces. Dyami Brown, signed to a one-year deal this offseason, has put together a very strong training camp and is emerging as a key player in the Jaguars‘ offense.

Brown’s Role

A third round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2021 NFL Draft, Brown emerged as a solid depth piece during his four season stint in Washington. Known for his speed and versatility, Brown joins the Jaguars hoping to form a dominant trio with Brian Thomas and rookie sensation, Travis Hunter. Playing in a new scheme, Brown is excited about his role and wants to contribute in any way that he can.

“Any way to get the ball is something I would like,” Brown said.

Speaking with the media following a Jaguars practice on Aug. 20, Brown spoke on his role within Coen’s fast paced offense, with offensive coordinator Grant Udinski praising Brown’s ability to learn the new scheme– which puts heavy emphasis on good blocking from wide receivers in the run game.

“It goes back to the way he works and the way he’s tried to embrace his role,” Udinski said. “He’s a guy you’re asking to do things that he hasn’t done in the past. It’s not always just some deep shots or ball-in-hand-type plays. He has a pretty wide route tree. It’s that balance and that flexibility that he provides. He is asked to do a lot of different things that helps us stay balanced as an offense and it gives him opportunities in the pass game because the more we can be a legitimate run threat with him in the game in different alignments and positions, the more opportunities he will have in the pass game.”

Brown’s Career Thus Far

Playing a limited role during the early portion of his Commanders career, Brown emerged as a breakout star in his final season with the team in 2024. Catching a career high of 30 passes for 308 yards and one touchdown, Brown played a pivotal role for the Commanders during their NFC championship run and is ready to take another step forward with the Jaguars.

“I just want to take that next step forward – keep getting better, the one percent each day,” Brown said. “Just focus on the same details that I need to work on, stay fundamentally sound. Don’t try to do too much or get out of the way of things. I just want to go out there and compete and be the best version of me.”

Thomas quickly emerged as a superstar during his rookie season, totaling 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns while Hunter’s two-way abilities make him a very intriguing player. Add Brown to that mix, and the Jaguars could boast one of the NFL’s top receiver rooms.
