Brittany Mahomes gave fans a rare glimpse of two of her family’s most beloved members as Kansas City temperatures dipped.
In a quick Instagram Stories update, Brittany shared a cozy look at Steel and Silver — the dogs she and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have often called their first “kids.” The pair appeared ready for the frigid weather, wearing hoodies with hoods pulled up.
The moment stood out because Steel and Silver have been part of the Mahomes family story for years, dating back to Patrick’s early NFL rise and Brittany’s longtime habit of sharing heartfelt — and sometimes hilarious — updates about their pets.

Steel and Silver have been around through nearly every stage of Patrick and Brittany’s rise as a celebrity sports couple. Their story began before marriage and before Super Bowl titles.
Patrick gifted Steel to Brittany on Valentine’s Day in 2017 while he was still playing quarterback at Texas Tech and Brittany lived in Tyler, Texas. In 2018, Patrick described how quickly Steel became his closest companion.
“He’s an awesome dog — very loving, very energetic,” Patrick said via the Kansas City Star. “So just having him, he’s like my best friend. It’s a great dog to have.”
The couple later added Silver in early 2019 as Patrick navigated his first NFL postseason. Patrick admitted Brittany was ready for the second dog sooner than he was.
“It was a joint decision,” Patrick said, before adding, “She definitely wanted it. I was trying to wait until the offseason, but she wanted to get it up here quickly.”
Steel and Silver were then featured in one of the couple’s most memorable announcements: the gender reveal for their first baby in 2021. Patrick and Brittany set up a detailed reveal where the dogs walked down a white aisle runner with their paws coated in pink water-based paint, leaving paw prints that signaled they were expecting a girl.
“Brittany is pretty mom-like already with those dogs,” Patrick said.
Steel and Silver have nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram.
Patrick Mahomes Once Joked That Steel Is Basically His Twin
Patrick has often spoken about his bond with Steel, including in a lighthearted moment during an Instagram Live conversation with former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.
“Me and my dog Steel are exactly the same person, except he’s a dog,” Patrick joked. “His mannerisms, like the stuff he does, is literally exactly the same as me.”
The dogs’ names have also remained a point of trivia for fans. In the same earlier coverage, Patrick revealed Steel was originally named because Brittany grew up as a Steelers fan. Patrick later joked that he had reframed the meaning.
“I say it’s because of the color of his skin,” he said.
These days, Steel and Silver are still part of the Mahomes household as Patrick and Brittany raise three children: Sterling, Bronze, and Golden.
