The Kansas City Chiefs could swoop in to land the biggest wide receiver prize of the offseason, with one analyst predicting they could steal A.J. Brown from under the New England Patriots.
The Philadelphia Eagles receiver has been rumored to be on the trade block, with the once-wide list of potential contenders dwindling down to the Patriots. With the teams still not coming to terms on a deal, the Chiefs could end up sending a bigger offer to land Brown and bolster their offense.
Chiefs Could Jump in the Mix for A.J. Brown
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox broke down the likely destinations for some players on the trade block, noting that the Patriots are likely still in the lead for Brown after he “voiced frustration” with the Eagles. Knox added that the trade is likely to take place after June 1, which would garner the Eagles some additional cap space, but that would also give the Chiefs time to move in.
“The question really isn’t about whether or when Brown will become available. Rather, the unknown is what Philly will find as an acceptable offer,” Knox wrote. “The recent Jaylen Waddle trade—the Denver Broncos surrendered a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and made a fourth-round pick swap—is a recent comp, though not an entirely accurate one.”
Knox added that the Eagles would likely welcome the Chiefs jumping into the mix, which could raise the price for Brown.
“If another team gets involved, possibly another Super Bowl hopeful, the Eagles will be able to push for more,” Knox wrote. “However, a conditional second-round pick that can become a first, at specific statistical thresholds, might be a best-case scenario for Philadelphia.”
