The Kansas City Chiefs largely ignored the wide receiver position through the start of free agency and the NFL draft, but could have one more big addition on the way.

The team’s wide receiving corps struggled at times during the 2025 season, one of the biggest factors in a late-season slump that led to their first season falling short of the playoffs in more than a decade. SI.com insider Albert Breer believes the Chiefs still have a chance to boost the group, naming them as a top potential landing spot for All-Pro Stefon Diggs.

Chiefs Have Chance to Take Big Swing With Stefon Diggs

In a mailbag published this week, Breer addressed speculation that Diggs could return to the Patriots, who cut him loose in the weeks after their Super Bowl loss. His release was seen as a cost-cutting move at the time, with Diggs potentially returning on a new contract.

Breer threw cold water on the idea, saying the Patriots appear focused on completing a trade for A.J. Brown. He instead suggested a trio of other teams, starting with the Chiefs.

“Now, I believe the Patriots love Diggs, and Diggs would love to return,” Breer wrote. “But any realistic talk about his return, to me, hinges on whether the Brown trade happens. Assuming Brown does become a Patriot, I think Diggs will probably be somewhere in that one-year, $10 million range. The Chiefs could make sense. The Commanders might, too, since Diggs is from D.C. The Falcons and Rams would also be interesting landing spots.”

Diggs could quickly become a No. 1 target for Patrick Mahomes, giving the Chiefs a trusted wide receiver and complement to Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. The team did get a boost with the return of tight end Travis Kelce, but Diggs would offer another trusted pass-catcher for Mahomes.

Others agree that Diggs will likely not return to the Patriots. Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston suggested that the team’s shift to A.J. Brown means Diggs is out of the picture.

“If they miss out on A.J Brown, I guess that’s a different topic or it just gives it a new wrinkle that I’m not really considering right now,” Perry said. “With A.J. Brown anticipated to be in the fold, I don’t see Stefon Diggs coming back. I don’t really think this court case had anything to do with the Patriots releasing him.”

Stefon Diggs Resolves Legal Troubles

Diggs crossed a major hurdle earlier this offseason when he was found not guilty on charges that he assaulted a former personal chef in a dispute over payment. The former All-Pro wide receiver had maintained his innocence throughout the process.

Though Diggs could still face the possibility of a suspension from the NFL over the incident, the cloud of uncertainty has lifted and teams may be more willing to consider signing him.

Diggs has been linked to several other teams this offseason, though he has not yet made any official visits. Other NFL insiders have suggested he could be a good fit for the Los Angeles Rams or Atlanta Falcons.
