Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Told to Make Drastic Move or It's the 'End of a Dynasty'

It’s been a rough start to the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 2025-26 season, and the team is 0-2 for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era. It can’t feel good for Mahomes or anyone on the Chiefs‘ squad, and Chiefs Kingdom isn’t happy about it, either. But, these things happen, and the players on the field are human, after all. Still, it stings that the Chiefs are entering the season with a 0-2 record, when they’ve been considered one of the strongest teams in the league for years.

While a loss is a loss, it’s worth pointing out that the Chiefs held their own against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles. They fell 17-20, so the game wasn’t a blowout by any means. But, there’s work to be done, and a lot of that pressure is falling on quarterback Mahomes.

Now, Mahomes is getting warned about the team’s upcoming, Week 3 game Sunday night game against the New York Giants. The team has to win this game or else they’ll be entering the season 0-3. Of course, the Giants are considered one of the weaker teams in the NFL, so it should be an easy, breezy win, but Mahomes and the Chiefs can’t take that for granted. This is the NFL, and stranger things have happened than an upset Giants over Chiefs win.

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Under Pressure

A number of teams in the NFL are really under pressure going into Week 3. One of them is the Kansas City Chiefs, and they’re likely at the top of that tally. In a Monday, September 15 feature for Bleacher Report, Alex Kay discusses the quarterbacks and players under the most pressure in Week 3 of the NFL.

“Due to factors like fortunate luck, scheduling and injuries, some still must prove they aren’t pretenders and have what it takes to contend despite their respectable starts,” he notes, adding that “several teams have stumbled out of the gate by losing back-to-back matchups.”

For Kansas City, he makes the drastic statement that “if Mahomes can’t find his footing and get Kansas City’s offense firing on all cylinders against the G-Men, it could spell the end of a dynasty.”

Patrick Mahomes Numbers for the 2025-26 Season

Since taking over as the starter in 2018, Patrick Mahomes has never opened a season with back-to-back losses,” Kay adds about Mahomes, one of the league’s best quarterbacks. “Counting Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX defeat, it’s also the first time a Mahomes-led squad has lost three consecutive games at any point.”

So, Mahomes has some cleaning up to do. As mentioned above, the positive news is that the Chiefs‘ schedule is getting easier with this Giants game. Fortunately for the Chiefs, the schedule gets more forgiving in the back half of September,” Kay notes. The team will be heavy favorites against the New York Giants in Week 3, a foe that just allowed 40 points to Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.

He adds the reality that the “absences of Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice from the team’s receiving corps are clearly being felt.” So, it’s going to be up to Mahomes and the O-line to make this work. They can do it, and hopefully the Kansas City Chiefs will be 1-2 after this weekend.
