Donna Kelce didn’t need a microphone to make her family ties known on “The Traitors.” During the season 4 premiere of the Peacock reality competition series, the 73-year-old mother of NFL stars Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce managed to work in subtle references to her sons — and even Taylor Swift — while explaining why she said yes to the castle in the first place.

Kelce appeared in the Jan. 8 three-episode premiere ready for a new challenge, telling cameras she never expected to get the opportunity.

“I never thought in a million years I would get this chance,” she said. “When you get to a certain part in your life, and your kids are starting their own families, it’s so important to reinvent yourself. Do the things you’ve always dreamt of — and that’s how I ended up in Scotland.”

Donna Kelce Referenced a Taylor Swift’s Song in the Premiere

Kelce also made a Taylor Swift reference early in the season, connecting Swift’s music to her mindset inside the castle.

Her future daughter-in-law taught Kelce how to dress for revenge — at least according to Kelce’s own words.

During the premiere, Kelce said Swift’s song “Vigilante S–t” helped prepare her for the ruthless energy of the game. She even nodded to the lyrics while talking strategy, saying, “Don’t get mad, get even,” which closely mirrors Swift’s line, “Don’t get sad, get even.”

Kelce also acknowledged she had concerns about potential familiar faces showing up in the cast — including what she jokingly described as her sons’ “adversaries.”

“That could either be on other teams, or it could be coaches,” she said, “or it could be past girlfriends.”

Donna Kelce Said Jason Kelce Got Her Involved With ‘The Traitors’

Kelce made it clear her casting didn’t come out of nowhere. She tied her entire “Traitors” journey back to her family — and credited her sons for being longtime fans.

She explained during the premiere that Travis and Jason are “huge fans” of the show.

“They’re so excited,” she said. “Jason is the one that got me involved. We just literally, one weekend during playoffs, we binged it — it was great.”

Even as she played the mom-next-door role, Kelce still managed to deliver a quiet wink to the Kelce brothers’ fanbase.

She managed to sneak in a 92% reference a nod to Travis and Jason’s “New Heights” podcast, where the brothers refer to their listeners as “92 percenters,” referencing the success rate of quarterback sneaks.

Donna Kelce’s Strategy Fell Apart Early in Season 4

Despite the excitement and pregame hype surrounding her casting, Kelce’s run on “The Traitors” ended quickly. The season 4 debut dropped Thursday on Peacock, and Kelce was banished in the third episode after fellow contestants correctly identified her as a Traitor.

“I’m an outlier … I’m just a mom,” Kelce said in the first episode, describing her place in a castle full of celebrity competitors.

That “just Donna” approach worked against her as the game demanded alliances, deception, and constant social maneuvering. Kelce didn’t lean into those tactics early, admitting she spent more time “fan-girling” than building strategic connections.

As the votes began stacking up, Kelce reflected on the pressure of the roundtable moments.

“It was very daunting to be up there and there’s a lot of people here that I’m fans of. I almost feel like I’m not worthy,” she told other players.

One of the contestants, “Top Chef” host Kristen Kish, tried to reassure her, telling Kelce, “You are like the mother of America.”

Kelce replied with her own celebrity encounter story: “But that’s the way I feel. I did the same thing to Paul McCartney at the Super Bowl.”

Kish laughed and responded, “Oh, humblebrag, Donna, humblebrag.”

‘America’s Mom’ Had a Secret Role the Whole Time

When Kelce’s time ended, she went out with a moment that reminded viewers she was, in fact, playing the game — even if she did it her own way.

“I know I’m the sacrificial lamb,” Kelce said during her final roundtable. “And I know that I had a blast meeting every single one of you. And on that note I think I’m going to go.”

She then turned back around, faced the room, and announced before leaving: “You’ve got yourself a traitor!”

Flashbacks later showed host Alan Cumming handing Kelce a red hooded cloak and telling her, “You are no ordinary traitor. You’re about to become my secret traitor.”

“Oh that’s, that’s devilish,” Kelce responded, grinning. “I’m going to be this sweet mom on the side. And then at night a mischievous traitor that will be murdering people. It will be just a hoot. I can’t wait.”

In her final interview, Kelce got emotional about the experience.

“Playing a traitor was tough, but I gave it my best shot,” she said. “This has been a dream come true. Um … these are happy tears that I get to do this at this point in my life. It’s just the joy of being in the game.”
