The Kansas City Chiefs played their last home game of the 2025-26 season on Christmas Day, and it was a bittersweet moment for the team. While it’s always special play that last home game, this time around, for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs won’t be advancing to the postseason, which is a strange feeling.
So, the Kansas City Chiefs will have to spend this offseason figuring out what went wrong and how to fix it for the 2026-27 season. For Mahomes, the MVP-winning quarterback will be spending the offseason recovering from an ACL and LCL injury he sustained in the team’s game on December 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Even though Mahomes wasn’t able to take the field at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas, he attended the game to support his teammates. Unfortunately for the Kansas City Chiefs, the team dropped their Christmas game to the Denver Bronco with a 20-13 loss at home. But, now, Mahomes is getting called out for his actions after the loss. Does he deserve it? We don’t think so, but you be the judge.
Patrick Mahomes Gets Called Out at Kansas City Chiefs Christmas Game
Mahomes attended the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game to support his teammates, but in a post on X sent out on Friday, December 26, by Dov Kleiman during the matchup, the quarterback is called out for reportedly smiling as the Chiefs were falling to the Broncos.
“Yikes: Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes was caught SMILING as the Chiefs gave up the go-ahead touchdown during last night’s game against the Broncos,” he notes in the post on X. “What an awful look for the face of Kansas City.”
Of course, the take was controversial, and commenters flooded to X to respond, many of them standing up for Mahomes.
“Dov really out here gaslighting us with that take,” one said. “Dov out here trying to push an agenda to gaslight us,” another added. “Or it could have been something else someone said or a thought that popped into his mind,” one more added.
Others commented on the Chiefs “replacing” Mahomes in the draft, with one saying, “They going to pick his replacement in the draft.”
It’s true that Mahomes could have been smiling about anything, or maybe he wasn’t even really paying attention at that moment. Regardless, his smile drew some controversy about got people talking after the game.
Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs on Retirement
On December 25, Netflix aired an interview between Kelce and Tony Gonzalez talking about everything from the current state of football to Kelce’s retirement decision.
Kelce didn’t give his final decision during the talk, but he gave hope in the interview that he might not retire yet. “I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce said when asked about the decision. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth.”
Kelce continued, “I feel motivated, but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I’ve got to hope that if I do want to come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
