Travis Kelce’s focus heading into the 2026 NFL season is being questioned following his marriage to Taylor Swift, but Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has a very different assessment of his veteran tight end.
Sports personality Bill Simmons raised the question during the Aug. 5 episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast” while discussing the Chiefs with ESPN analyst Mina Kimes.
Simmons was initially discussing Patrick Mahomes‘ outlook as the quarterback returns from ACL surgery, but the conversation shifted to Kansas City’s receiving options. Simmons pointed to Kelce’s age and recent wedding as reasons for concern.
“Kelce just got married and is in his mid-30s,” Simmons said.
When Kimes laughed and pushed him to explain how marrying Swift could affect Kelce’s performance, Simmons expanded on his point.

Simmons suggested Kelce, 36, may have other things on his mind after his high-profile wedding.
“I don’t know if his eye is on the prize,” Simmons said. “He just had a wedding with 1,200 people. I don’t know if he cares about the season. Big wedding, I don’t know. I don’t know where his head’s at.”
Kelce and Swift, both 36, married July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The comments come as Kelce prepares for his 14th NFL season and after his receiving production declined over the past several years.
However, Reid has publicly pushed back against questions about Kelce’s preparation and conditioning.
During an Aug. 4 interview with NFL Network, Reid said Kelce reported to camp ready to work.
“He came back in good shape,” Reid said. “Everyone’s out there saying he’s got the dad body and all this stuff but he looks the same to me as he’s always looked. And just playing like crazy.”
Reid also specifically praised Kelce’s focus.
“He’s doing a nice job with everything,” Reid said. “He’s focused and ready to go, and I appreciate that. When you have someone who’s been here 14 years and wants to be out there every snap…he’s going to play and play hard and aggressive and not be stopped and that’s contagious.”
Andy Reid Says Kelce Has Remained Focused on Chiefs
Reid’s assessment of Kelce has remained consistent throughout the offseason.
Even before Kelce and Swift’s wedding, the Chiefs coach said the tight end had spent considerable time around the team preparing for the season.
“Listen, he has been here most of the offseason if not the whole offseason,” Reid told reporters. “He’s been around. It is good to have him here. He did the mandatory camp and [did] a nice job there. It’s good to have him back in and rolling.”
Reid again emphasized Kelce’s approach to football.
“He’s focused in and ready to go and I appreciate that,” Reid said. “When you have somebody that’s been here 14 years and wants to be out there every snap…where he’s gonna play hard and aggressive and not be stopped, that’s contagious.”
Kelce also made his intentions clear months before the wedding when he announced his decision to return for another season rather than retire.
