Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift are officially engaged. After dating for nearly two years, the couple has announced that they’re taking the next step and will be husband and wife.
Kelce and Swift broke the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26. The caption on the post reads, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” and the post features a gallery of photos of Kelce and Swift getting engaged in a beautiful outdoor area. We here at Heavy Sports wish them all the best.
Kelce and Swift have been together since summer 2023, so they’re coming up on their two-year anniversary as a couple. They’ve been through a lot, from Swift being booed at the Super Bowl and Kelce and the Chiefs falling hard in that game to good moments, like Kelce attending Swift’s Eras tour and, of course, all of the Chiefs wins.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift on the Podcast
The news comes just about a week after Swift appeared on Travis Kelce and his brother Jason’s podcast, “New Heights.” On the show, they talked about everything from football to baking to Swift getting her masters back.
Swift originally announced the news of getting her masters back in May with an Instagram message. “You belong with me,” Swift stated at the time. It was a huge moment for her.
“Hi. I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow,” Swift shared on her website in a special note. “A flashback sequence of all the times I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell you this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through.”
She continued, “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now. I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”
Taylor Swift Gushes Over Getting Masters Back
Swift is really thanking her fans for getting the masters back. She says that it’s because of them that she’s been able to make the kind of money needed to buy those precious songs back.
“The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music,” she said in the post. “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”
Swift’s issues with her masters started in June 2019, when Braun purchased Big Machine Records from Scott Borchetta.
It’s certainly been a banner year from Swift. Not only did she get those masters back, but now, she’s officially engaged. Let’s hope they get married at Arrowhead Stadium.
