Antonio Pierce plans to meet with the Giants about their head coaching vacancy.

The interview will take place Thursday and Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 47-year-old Pierce most recently coached the Raiders, replacing Josh McDaniels on an interim basis in 2023 before being given the full-time job in 2024.

Pierce is a legend in Giants lore. The linebacker played for New York from 2005-09, making one Pro Bowl and helping the team beat the then-undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII in one of the greatest upsets in NFL history.

Raiders Fired Pierce After One Full Season

While Pierce was 5-4 as the interim boss in 2023, the Raiders were just 4-13 in his one full season. He was fired following the conclusion of the season, with the team saying it was “grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization.”

Las Vegas replaced him with Pete Carroll, who was fired on Monday after finishing 3-14 — tied for the worst record in the NFL.

According to Schefter, Pierce is expected to dine with members of the Giants organization on Thursday night and complete his in-person interview on Friday.

Giants Kicking Off Head Coaching Interviews

On the heels of a 4-13 season, the Giants have a long list of questions to be answered. Of utmost priority, of course, is finding a head coach.

Former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is widely seen as a frontrunner for the job, with SNY’s Connor Hughes reporting that New York is “all-in” on hiring the 63-year-old.

While Harbaugh isn’t expected to meet with interested clubs until next week, the Giants kicked off interviews this week by speaking to recently fired head coaches Kevin Stefanski (Browns) and Raheem Morris (Falcons), among others.

Once they complete their interview with Pierce, the Giants will be compliant with the Rooney Rule and be able to make a hire.

Pierce may be considered a longshot for the job, but he is an intriguing option given his outspoken personality and strong knowledge of the organization.
