The Las Vegas Raiders reportedly have their next head coach lined up. On Feb. 1, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, citing sources, that the Silver and Black expected to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their next head coach after the Super Bowl.
Kubiak won’t be able to finalize a deal with the Raiders until after the Super Bowl, where the Seahawks are set to face the New England Patriots. Schefter adds that following the meeting on Jan. 31 with the Raiders and Arizona Cardinals, Kubiak plans to finalize a deal with Las Vegas.
However, it cannot be completed until after the Super Bowl, where the Seahawks will face the New England Patriots on Feb. 8. Amid the report that Kubiak is on his way to Las Vegas, The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen floated a name that the Seahawks coach could consider bringing over from Seattle to be his offensive coordinator.
“The most important coach that Kubiak has to take with him and believe he will is OL coach John Benton,” Nguyen wrote on X on Feb. 1. “He should give him the OC title and a big salary.”
Raiders Get Strong Take on Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak
Over the last few days, former Raiders players have shared their thoughts on Kubiak potentially being the next head coach for the Silver and Black. Before the news regarding Kubiak’s reported hire, Raiders legend Reggie Kinlaw shared his thoughts on the Seahawks coach potentially being the guy in charge in Las Vegas.
“We’re going to talk about the new era,” Kinlaw told Vegas Sports Today in a video posted on Jan. 31. “This is new football. I mean, fundamentals have changed, have not changed, but the style of football has changed. So I’m looking at all these other teams that got great quarterbacks. I mean, great quarterbacks or young quarterbacks coming up. So you need a young head coach.
“Kubiak will be ideal for the Raiders. And plus, if we draft [Fernando] Mendoza, you got somebody that can coach this kid, break him in playing a new style of football, which is this all about passing, dude. I mean, you know, we either get a sit‑in‑the‑pocket quarterback or somebody that can move around.”
Kirk Morrison Gets Blunt About Klint Kubiak
Kinlaw isn’t the only former Raider commenting on the potential arrival of Kubiak as the team’s next head coach. Kirk Morrison shared his take on the prospect of Kubiak leading the Silver and Black in this new era in which the team could have a new franchise QB in Fernando Mendoza.
“I think he checks a lot of the boxes,” Morrison said on the Jan. 28 edition of “Upon Further Review.” “You saw his offense not only just on the NFC conference championship game, but also throughout the whole entire season.
“I think even bigger is that you saw the offense uh with Sam Darnold who’s been a quarterback that’s bounced around the league and you know had success last year in Minnesota and really found a home you know in Seattle.”
