The Las Vegas Raiders‘ wide receiver room is still a work in progress. They recently brought in veteran wide receiver Noah Brown to compete, but it didn’t take long for the team to make a decision.
The Raiders announced that they have released Brown from the roster.
Brown lasted a week with the team, but clearly didn’t do enough to show that he deserves a roster spot. The 6-foot-2 Brown was thought to be a good candidate to be the Raiders’ X receiver.
He only had five catches last season, but has three seasons with over 400 receiving yards. Considering how questionable the Raiders’ wide receiver room is, it looked like he would’ve had a better chance at making the roster. Instead, he’s already heading back to free agency.
Head coach Klint Kubiak recently spoke about how he needs somebody in the wide receiver room to step up. Brown wasn’t able to make a strong enough impression.
It will be interesting to see if this is the precursor to another wide receiver move. There aren’t many great options left in free agency, but the Raiders could be looking at some options. Either way, Brown is going to have to hope that another team comes along before the season.
Jack Bech Talks Year 2
Life would be a lot easier for the Raiders if one of the wide receivers on the roster stepped up. As a former second-round pick, the team is certainly hoping that Jack Bech takes a step forward.
He’s already learned a lot in his brief time in the NFL.
“Just perseverance,” Bech said on “Unnecessary Roughness.” “The league, obviously, these are the best in the world. A lot of people get paid a lot of money, but that’s both sides of the ball.
“Like the guy across from you, he’s getting paid a lot of money to guard you. So just being able to understand there’s going to be ups and downs, but to be able to just persevere, keep God first in everything, keep working hard.”
Bech Hoping For Improvement in Year 2
Bech was a non-factor as a rookie. He didn’t see the ball much, which wasn’t always his fault, but he also didn’t stand out. That has also been the case this offseason.
He’s hoping to be a more impactful player in his second year.
“I think the main thing, a theme in the team and a theme that I like to go off of is just consistency,” Bech said. “Each and every day coming in, putting your head down, if it’s the best day ever, OK day or not a great day in your eyes, just keep coming in day in and day out and being consistent.”
Bech could have a big role in the offense if he can consistently get open. The Raiders don’t have much competition at wide receiver. He hasn’t proven much yet, so there are concerns that he may have simply been a bad draft pick. He’ll have a chance to prove that notion wrong.
