After a slow Week 1 performance, Los Angeles Rams veteran wide receiver Davante Adams had a breakout Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans, recording six receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Adams will be looking to take this form into the contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, in a rematch of last season’s NFC Divisional playoff game. Of all the teams that the Eagles faced on their run to winning the Super Bowl, it was the Rams that gave them the most issues.
Moreover, Rams‘ wide receiver wants to show that adding him boost Los Angeles’ chances of overcoming a team like the Eagles. Ahead of the Week 3 matchup, Adams appeared on ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” and threw a playful jab at cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who will probably be on him throughout the game.
“I mean, really, it’s not just him,” Adams said. “They got a, they got a great defense all across the board. He’s a great young player, I think he shows a lot of promise for the future. But I’m hoping I can show him a few things that he never seen, you know, never had to deal with before today. So it’ll be fun.”
Rams Want to Send Eagles a Message
In the NFC, every team knows that they need to get through Philadelphia if they want to reach the Super Bowl. Los Angeles nearly go through them last season. As a result, Adams notes that there’s a sense of the team wanting to send a message that they can go toe-to-toe with the champions.
“I mean, it’s one that, you know, in a sense, you got to look at it like the next game is the next game we have,” Adams added. “So it’s the most important. But obviously, with the history that the Rams have against the Eagles here, it’s important that we come out here and, you know, I help them try to do everything we can to get this win. You know, it’s a great team we’re going up against, but it’ll be a good test for us.”
Can Davante Adams-Matthew Stafford Duo Torment Eagles?
If Los Angeles does want to send a message to the Eagles with a win, it will be on Matthew Stafford’s ability to find his weapons, like Adams. This connection began to flourish against the Titans and now will look to see if they can continue this against Philadelphia.
“It’s in a good spot [Adams’ relationship with Stafford],” Adams said. “It’s in a good spot for, you know, the work that we’ve been able to get together. Obviously, Aaron [Rodgers] and I working together for, you know, having eight years together in Green Bay and then playing last year together as well.
“You know, it takes some time to get to that type of rapport. But we, we working right now and I like we’re in a pretty good spot for only having two games in. And as you seen from last game, it’s just going to continue to get better from this point on.”
Nonetheless, it will be a challenge considering the Eagles‘ defense have only allowed 361 passing yards and one passing touchdown. It will be interesting to see if the Rams can buck the trend and torch Philadelphia’s secondary.
