The Philadelphia Eagles had only one major challenge on their way to winning the Super Bowl last season and that was the Los Angeles Rams. Every other opponent the Eagles defeated by double digits while the Rams fell by six points.

Although Los Angeles feels their squad has improved, FOX Sports NFL analyst Jonathan Vilma omitted the Rams from being the main threat to the Eagles in the NFC.

“The biggest threat in the conference will be the NFC North winner,” Vilma said on the “Rich Eisen Show.” “The NFC North winner, I’m going with [the] Detroit Lions. I like [the] Green Bay [Packers]. I like Green Bay a lot, actually. I like them a lot. I like Minnesota [Vikings], too. But [Jordan] Love turns the ball over a little too much for me. I’m a defensive guy. So my thing is, a punt is always the best option. Don’t throw the ball in harm’s way.”

Why Lions are main threat to Eagles?

Los Angeles have Matthew Stafford back under center and added veteran receiver Davante Adams to an already loaded offense. Kyren Williams also had a big game in the loss to the Eagles, rushing for 106 yards.

On the other side of the ball, the Rams’ young defense continues to improve, led by Jared Verse. Verse stood out against Philadelphia, recording two sacks in the matchup. Despite the impressive squad that the Rams have, Vilma explained why the Lions are the major threat.

So I believe the Lions, the culture that Dan Campbell has set there, the way they take the ball away, the way that they can run the ball, the athletes they have on the offensive side, they’re going to win,” Vilma added. And that’s going to be the biggest threat to the Eagles, because with the Eagles, they are a very good team. [The] offensive line is good. I like Jalen Hurts.

But when you look at Dan Campbell and the toughness that he brings—not saying the Eagles aren’t tough—I’m saying that it’s going to be a dog fight. The Lions [are] very good at taking the football away. Really, really good. You can neutralize that Eagles‘ defensive line with the offensive line of the Lions.

“[Jared] Goff has seen it all. He knows how to get the ball out quickly. Amon-Ra [St. Brown] is really great with the intermediate routes and the option routes. I look at that matchup whenever it comes. Hopefully, we’re playing this back five months from now, and it does happen. I would see the Lions being the biggest threat to the Eagles.

Rams are confident they can compete in NFC

Recently, Rams president Kevin Demoff appeared on an edition of ‘Good Morning Football’ to reflect on the 10 years since the team’s return to Los Angeles. He also said this is the most talented Rams roster since their return—a notable statement considering one squad won the Super Bowl in 2022.

“I think this is the most talented team we’ve had since we’ve been in Los Angeles,” Demoff said. I think that’s what’s exciting, from a true perspective, as a Rams fan.
