The Chicago Bears were in play to make a big trade for Alontae Taylor of the New Orleans Saints.

The Los Angeles Rams tried to address one need on their roster multiple times and in various ways throughout the 2025 regular-season campaign. That is the cornerback spot, and they could try to attack it again this spring.

In fact, the Rams can explore multiple avenues to improve their group at that position.

They must give it attention, with a looming deadline, injuries, and depth concerns abound heading into the 2026 offseason.

The Rams ranked 19th against the pass, 12th against the run, and 17th overall on defense during the 2025 regular season. Injuries at cornerback and in their secondary as a whole belied the talent on the roster.

In addition to corners Ahkello Witherspoon and trade deadline acquisition Roger McCreary, Rams nickelback Quentin Lake also missed multiple games during the campaign.

Alontae Taylor, the 49th overall draft pick in 2022, could be more than a hedge against injuries.

“Taylor had his best year as a pro in 2025, and the Rams have a clear need at cornerback,” CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles wrote on January 28. “Whether they address it in free agency or the draft remains TBD, but in this projection, they nab one of the top free agents available.”

Notably, Pereles also listed Taylor’s incumbent team, the New Orleans Saints, as well as the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans as potential suitors for Taylor.

His future is a big item for the Saints to address.

“What they do with the 27-year-old Taylor will be the biggest storyline to watch in the 2026 free agency period. The Saints have parted ways with some of their starting defensive backs in recent memory,” ESPN’s Katherine Terrell wrote on January 28. “So it’s not a given that they re-sign him this year. Taylor has played in all 17 games for the past three seasons for the Saints. He can play both inside and outside and had two interceptions in 2025.”

The Saints are facing significant financial constraints. Teams regularly move money around, converting salaries into bonuses and such to clear additional space, though. The Rams could approach some of the players on their roster for similar adjustments.

LA is primed to make a splash this coming offseason. They could do so in the draft and free agency during the spring.

The Rams are armed with a pair of first-round draft picks. ESPN’s Matt Miller noted that they could address corner with the earlier of their two selections. That is pick No. 13 overall and comes via last offseason’s trade with the Atlanta Falcons.

Taylor is coming off a four-year, $7.2 million contract. He has $9.1 in career earnings after his four seasons with the Saints.

Spotrac projects Taylor could command a three-year, $33.5 million pact in free agency.

According to Over The Cap, the Rams will have $34.4 million in space this offseason. However, they also have some players like wide receiver Puka Nacua, who they could opt extend following an award-winning start to his career.

The Rams will have options for how they want to go about improving their roster during the 2026 offseason.
