With two weeks of preseason football over, we are inching closer to teams making final roster decisions.
For the Miami Dolphins, whose depth appears questionable to say the least, it will provide an opportunity to claim some players from other teams.
The second week of the preseason provided a glimpse into which players are likely to make the team, and which ones may be searching for a new team. Unfortunately for one former Miami Dolphins player, it appears he may be on the outside looking in before the regular season, as his comeback attempt in the NFL may not last long.
Ex-Dolphins Player Expected to be Released
Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was among the players Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport predicted to hit the open market after roster cuts.
Davenport wrote: “Odell Beckham Jr. was once arguably the NFL’s best wide receiver during his time with the New York Giants.
In each of his first three seasons, he topped 1,300 receiving yards. He made one of the greatest catches of all time and won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.
Beckham is now nearing his 34th birthday, though, and his last 1,000-yard season came back in 2019. Last year in Miami, he caught all of nine passes for 55 yards.
And while a reunion with the team where he started his career may be a good story, Beckham faces an uphill battle to make the Week 1 roster. Beckham didn’t help his chances by narrowly missing a touchdown catch in that game against the Dolphins, but the reality is that he’s an aging receiver who has one year with 550 receiving yards in the last six years.
His recent production has not matched the reputation he built earlier in his career.”
After struggling to make an impact with the Dolphins during the 2024 season, the veteran wide receiver did not sign with a team during the 2025 season, but was suspended six games by the NFL for a PED violation.
He then returned to the Giants this offseason, after the team had hired head coach John Harbaugh, who coached Beckham Jr. during his year with the Baltimore Ravens.
Odell Beckham Jr. has totaled over $101 million in career earnings, according to Spotrac.

Beckham’s time in Miami was disappointing, as he had the worst NFL season of his career and did not finish out the year with the team. He battled with injuries during training camp and was then replaced by Malik Washington as Miami’s No. 3 receiver on the depth chart during the second half of the season.
While the Dolphins could use a veteran wide receiver with the pedigree that Beckham Jr. has, it appears the former Miami receiver may no longer be able to contribute to an NFL team on a meaningful level.
Instead, the Dolphins will likely feature a young wide receiver room. Rookie Caleb Douglas has become a starter for Miami after an impressive training camp. Chris Bell, who is viewed as perhaps the most talented receiver on the roster, returned to practice after the second preseason game and may compete for a starting job.
