The quarterback position for the Minnesota Vikings will be under the spotlight this offseason. With Kwesi Adofo-Mensah gone as the team’s general manager, do the Vikings stick with J.J. McCarthy or look for a veteran that can help them win now?

Although he waited until after the 2025 NFL season ended, Justin Jefferson gently addressed his frustration with the QB play. Players like Jefferson are ready to win now, and so will Minnesota sacrifice the confidence to pursue a player like Aaron Rodgers? CBS Sports’ Leger Douzable believes they should.

During a Feb. 3 appearance on CBS Sports HQ, Douzable stated that the Vikings’ biggest priority this offseason is a QB, and Rodgers is the ideal player for them.

“I have a name that’s probably going to shock a lot of people, but I think it makes a lot of sense: Aaron Rodgers,” Douzable said. “There were rumors last year going into the 2025 season that this is where he wanted to be. But the front office and the coaching staff decided they were going to go with J.J. McCarthy because they put that draft capital in for him, and it hadn’t really worked out this past year.

“We’ve heard Justin Jefferson come out and say he’s in support of J.J. McCarthy, but you could tell he’s also frustrated as well, and you can see it in the game tape as well. Why not take a flyer on Aaron Rodgers and talk him out of retirement for one more year? When you look at this roster, it’s one of the best rosters in football. The one thing they’re missing is the quarterback position.”

Aaron Rodgers Can Still Play at a Top Level

Despite being in his 40s, Rodgers showed that he can still play at a high level. He posted a passer rating of 94.8 with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 16 regular-season games for the Pittsburgh Steelers, per StatMuse.

“Aaron Rodgers bounced back nicely for the Pittsburgh Steelers this past year,” Douzable added. “He seemed a lot healthier and was able to push the ball down the field. Now, you’re not going to get the Aaron Rodgers that won back-to-back MVPs, but with the talent they have on this roster, they don’t need that Aaron Rodgers.

“They need somebody that can just steer the ship, get them in the right place, and get the ball to the playmakers, aka Justin Jefferson. I know a lot of people are going to be like, ‘Well, here we go again with Favre, and now we have Aaron Rodgers.’ It makes a lot of sense for Aaron Rodgers if he wants to play and he still has it in his heart to go to the Minnesota Vikings.”

Kyler Murray Floated as Possible QB Target for Vikings

Nonetheless, Rodgers isn’t the only name floating in the speculation mill. On Feb. 2, former NFL player Domonique Foxworth stated that if the Arizona Cardinals cut Kyler Murray, Minnesota should be a landing spot for the former No. 1 overall pick.

“I still think he’s incredibly talented,” Foxworth said during an appearance on “Get Up.” “Of course, he’s uniquely built to play quarterback, which isn’t always good, but I think he’s a guy that, in the right situation, could help out a lot.

“I really like the Vikings as a spot where they could get someone like Kyler Murray to take some of the pressure off of him. I don’t think that the Cardinals have been a particularly well-run organization. And that’s not to take responsibility away from Kyler.”
