Although the Minnesota Vikings are 6-1 on the season, it seems like things are getting ugly in terms of the offensive side of the football. Now a Vikings analyst is beginning to wonder about Justin Jefferson’s future with the organization.

It is clear that Jefferson is frustrated with the offense. He declined to speak with the media following the loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. With the NFL trade deadline looming next week, rumors about potential quarterback fits and offensive pieces have been a major topic of discussion. However, Jefferson’s future with the organization has not been talked about a ton.

Vikings Analysts Make Bold Claims On Jefferson

However, now it is being put under a microscope, as the Vikings offense continues to struggle and Jefferson wants to win. The Athletic’s Matthew Collier and Alec Lewis went into this in a deep discussion with Garrett Greenlee, who runs the Football Analysis account on YouTube

“It feels like they’re at a crossroads where, yes, of course, he (Justin Jefferson) wants to win. They’re 6-1. They can seriously win. But he knows that if the offense performs like this, it’s got first round out 13-10 written all over it. And then we go, what was that for? What was any of that for? They all know, right?” Collier asked.

“They all know that”, Lewis said.

“Yep. Yep. These are all very smart guys. They know that this train is headed in a certain direction,” Collier replied.

The conversation then continued among the group. Greenlee made a startling point to Vikings fans during the conversation.

“And I’m at the point where it’s like I genuinely would not be surprised. And I actually think that it’s more than likely this is Justin Jefferson’s final season in Purple if things don’t turn around at all.”

Justin Jefferson Has Had Whirlwind Week

This was certainly an interesting conversation given the recent events of Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions. Jefferson declined to speak with the media post-game. He has been even-keeled in his frustrations with the offense on a public level when he has met with the media. However, it’s clear that his production is not what it has been in recent memory, and that the offense has struggled to get him targets.

Jefferson is having a career-worst season to this point. He has 28 receptions on 40 targets for 335 yards and four touchdowns. He is averaging 12 yards per catch.  Jefferson did have a better day on Sunday, as he was able to record a touchdown grab in the second quarter of the game. However, it was clear that Jefferson and Kyler Murray were not on the same page.

Vikings Star Is Going To Command Large Salary

On top of just on-field production, Jefferson’s contract certainly comes into play. He is going to play on a $50 million salary cap hit in 2027 and $53 million salary cap hit in 2028. The contract was very player-friendly.  It was potentially built with the idea that the wide receiver and organization could come to an agreement following the 2026 season.

It’s clear that the Vikings are at a crossroads with Jefferson. He is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL when he is given the targets and opportunity to play at a high level. However, it seems like frustration is boiling over for the wide receiver, as the Vikings themselves try to figure out the quarterback room. Figuring out the room is not an easy task. Finding a franchise quarterback is even harder.

That said, Jefferson is entering the prime of his career. It would be reasonable to expect that he would want a chance to potentially play for a team that can play in more than just the first or second round of the playoffs. Hopefully, the Vikings will be able to get the job done and get to make a deep playoff push. They have the defense and the offensive weapons to get it done.

A lack of consistency has been the only thing stopping the Vikings from winning. Unfortunately, it may also drive their elite receiver out of town as well.
