Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson had an acrobatic catch in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. The catch itself is one that’s going to be hard to forget, as Jefferson scored the Vikings’ first touchdown of the game and gave the Vikings the lead in the process.

The touchdown itself ended a seven-play, 74-yard drive that took 2:53 off the clock. It was Jefferson’s fourth touchdown of the season, and it put the Vikings in front early.

This is certainly a good thing to see for Vikings fans. Earlier in the week, the LSU product remained even-keeled about the offense. Jefferson has struggled to get targets at times this season. However, he had a catch on three targets and the touchdown to start Sunday’s game.

A Good Sign For Vikings Wideout

This is certainly a good sign for the Vikings offense. The offensive unit has been rusty at times in the first quarter for the Vikings this season. In the season opener against the Green Bay Packers and in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, they scored three points. The third week of the season saw them score 10 points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This has been the season-high for the Vikings at the time of this writing. The lack of explosive offense has undoubtedly hurt the Vikings to this point in the season.

However, getting Jefferson back on track would definitely help the offensive unit. The LSU product only had 44 receiving yards against the Colts last week. The lack of targets and the lack of production were undoubtedly noticeable. Even still, he has remained patient and waited for his turn.

Hopefully, this touchdown grab could be the start of something special for Jefferson. He has been a consistent receiver throughout the course of his career, and he has been a major weapon for the Vikings.

Justin Jefferson Can Get It Done At Any Time

Breaking down the statistics a little further, Jefferson has been able to make an impact early in his career. In the first quarter, he has scored 11 touchdowns. That number increases to 16 in the second quarter. If anything, the playmaker struggles a bit in the third quarter. He has only recorded seven third-quarter touchdowns in his career. In an interesting trend, he has recorded 12 touchdowns in the fourth quarter or overtime.

If anything, these numbers prove that Jefferson can get it done at any point during the game. He has been a consistent playmaker throughout the course of his career with the Vikings. Not only has he been able to perform at a high level, but he has also been able to do it with multiple quarterbacks.  There is certainly something to be said for that, especially with a player of his caliber on the offense.

Very often, playmaking wide receivers want the ball as often as possible. It seems as though Jefferson wants to win. He has waited his turn at times this season, and he was undoubtedly rewarded on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if his second-quarter touchdown will pave the way for something bigger throughout the rest of the season.
