The Minnesota Vikings have a possible new quarterback trade target with Kyler Murray struggling.

The Minnesota Vikings have one week to decide whether they should add a new quarterback to their struggling offense. Starter Kyler Murray has the Vikings sitting at 6-1, but Murray has just five passing touchdowns versus three interceptions in six starts.

If Minnesota pursues a potential replacement, the team appears to have a possible new trade target — Jacoby Brissett.

The Arizona Cardinals came back to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 after benching Brissett for Gardner Minshew II. The Cardinals announced Monday they will start Minshew in Week 9 with rookie Carson Beck as his backup.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio now sees Brissett as on the NFL trade block.

“By sending eight-game starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett all the way to No. 3 on the depth chart, the Cardinals have sent a clear message to the rest of the league, eight days from the trade deadline,” wrote Florio.

“Make us an offer.”

The Vikings are one of the more obvious teams that could pursue a quarterback before next Tuesday’s trade deadline and thus Brissett.

Could Vikings Target QB Jacoby Brissett Before Trade Deadline?

Florio appeared to suggest Brissett as a trade target for a contender who simply wants quarterback depth. But the NFL insider also didn’t rule out the possibility of Brissett coming to Minnesota to replace Murray.

SI on Vikings’s Trevor Ripley proposed that possibility on Monday as well. Ripley named Brissett one of four “realistic quarterback trade targets” for Minnesota before the November 10 trade deadline.

“After an impressive 2025 season with 23 touchdowns to just eight picks, Brissett hasn’t looked as sharp in 2026, with seven interceptions already,” wrote Ripley. “If the Cards do opt to roll with Minshew moving forward, Brissett could likely be had for a late Day 3 pick.”

At such a low trade price, it’s a bit hard to argue the Vikings shouldn’t roll the dice on Brissett. However, Ripley explained why that trade isn’t a slam dunk.

“Brissett may not move the needle enough for the Vikings, although he does have four games this year with at least 270 passing yards,” added Ripley. “Head coach Kevin O’Connell’s system clearly isn’t super adaptable either, so even though getting a capable passer for a relatively low price could be interesting, learning this offense to a point of making a difference feels like a steep mountain to climb.”

Although Minshew led the Cardinals back over the Cowboys on Sunday, Brissett received credit for the win because he started the game. In eight starts, Brissett went 3-5 with the Cardinals before losing his job. He completed 63.3% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Brissett averaged 5.6 yards per pass.

Under a different offensive coordinator, Brissett averaged 6.9 yards per attempt with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 games last season. The Cardinals leading the NFL in passing attempts in 2025, though, likely boosted the quarterback’s overall numbers.

Kyler Murray Still Struggling for Vikings

It’s quite fair to wonder if Brissett moves the needle at all for the Vikings. The 33-year-old is a journeyman quarterback who has played for six different teams in 11 seasons.

The fact Brissett could be on Minnesota’s radar really speaks volumes on the Vikings offense and the struggles of Murray.

The former Pro Bowler was supposed to be able to revitalize his career with the Vikings this fall. While Murray has won five of his six starts, some pundits have argued he’s never looked worse in his professional career.

Murray is averaging 6.6 yards per pass with a 64.9% completion percentage. As an offense, the Vikings are 31st in passing yards and 24th in passing touchdowns.

Despite Murray’s running ability, the Vikings are also just 22nd in yards per carry and last in rushing touchdowns.

Those totals have led to the Vikings being 27th in points scored and 29th in total yards at the midseason point.

On defense, the Vikings arguably have the best unit in the league. Minnesota has allowed the fewest points and second-fewest yards in the NFL after eight weeks.

That’s all the more reason the team is desperate for better quarterback play. If the Vikings want, they could trade for Brissett to see if he can be any better than Murray.
