The 2025 NFL season is essentially over for the Minnesota Vikings, as the team has been eliminated from playoff contention and is already focusing on the future, with some moves expected to be made during the offseason.
One of those moves might be bringing in a new defensive coordinator, as Brian Flores’ contract with the team is set to expire. He’ll be a highly sought-after commodity for teams around the league that want to improve their defense. However, the Vikings are trying to extend his contract, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Flores, in his third season as the Vikings’ defensive coordinator, is in the final year of his contract. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Vikings are currently working toward extending his deal.
Ultimately, Flores may simply re-sign with the Vikings, but one team in particular might make a run at bringing him in during the NFL offseason.
Cowboys Targeting Vikings DC Brian Flores?

The Dallas Cowboys are one notable team in the league that desperately needs a boost defensively, and adding Flores to replace the underachieving Matt Eberflus would be a step in the right direction.
According to Florio, the Cowboys appear to have their sights set on landing Flores.
Dallas seems to be destined to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, after a disastrous reunion year. (Never mind the fact that owner/G.M. Jerry Jones traded the defense’s best player 10 days before Week 1.) And the increasing chatter in league circles is that the Cowboys will be firmly in play for Flores.
Apparently, the Vikings’ brass is fully aware that Flores may take his talents to Dallas once his contract officially expires.
The Vikings, we’re told, are keenly aware of the possibility. And while the Vikings should have exclusive rights to negotiate with Flores until his contract expires, we all know by now that tampering is as rampant in pro football as flopping mouthpieces that never seem to make their way into players’ mouths.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Vikings can avoid losing Flores to the Cowboys by getting him to agree to a contract extension or if he’s intent on seeing what longtime team owner and general manager Jerry Jones might offer.
Vikings to Trade for Bengals Superstar QB Joe Burrow?

Along with potentially seeing a change at defensive coordinator, the Vikings could make a move to upgrade the quarterback position, with J.J. McCarthy potentially needing more time to learn as a backup behind a proven veteran.
One superstar quarterback that could be on the move during the NFL offseason is Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, with Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports believing the Vikings might be among the interested teams.
Teams that figure to be in the quarterback market include the Raiders, Browns, Jets, Dolphins and Cardinals. The Steelers, Colts, Rams and Vikings could also all be in need of a quarterback depending upon how the early offseason plays out.
It could be a stretch that Burrow will be on the move and that the Vikings would be willing to make another trade to bring in a franchise quarterback. However, anything is possible, and this could be something to monitor, especially if Burrow ends up making it clear that he wants to play elsewhere.
