New England Patriots first-round draft pick Caleb Lomu responded to the viral video of him dancing from draft night.

The NFL Draft, particularly the first round, is a night for celebrating a dream come true for players around the league. That can lead to some viral moments as people react in the moment. Except in the case of New England Patriots first-round pick Caleb Lomu, who went viral for a pre-recorded dance video.

The video of Lomu played alongside his highlight package after the Patriots selected him No. 28 overall. In it, Lomu does a twirl while dancing with his arms outstretched, showing off a good amount of joy for a pre-recorded video. That can be seen below.

It’s not a surprise that the dance drew plenty of jokes online. That tends to happen with anything out of the ordinary. Still, the dance will likely have a tendency to pop up throughout his career, kind of like how Tom Brady’s combine photo managed to follow him.

New England Patriots Rookie Tackle Caleb Lomu Responded to the Viral Video

Caleb Lomu was in Foxborough on Thursday, getting introduced by the New England Patriots. Along with that came a brief press conference where that viral dance came up again.

He explained that he himself isn’t a big fan of the dance. It was just a brief moment at the NFL Combine when he was being filmed and told to do something. Not really sure what to do, that dance is what he came up with.

“That was an interesting moment. That was at the combine, all the media stuff they were doing there. They put me up on the stage along with a lot of other people, they had all the cameras, and they said, ’10 seconds, just do whatever, we’re going to film you,'” Lomu said.

“So I was thinking, ‘What should I do?’ They said to do whatever you want. They made me do that like four different times — walk from the back of the stage out to the front, doing the exact same thing. That moment, I hated it. But I was like, ‘OK, I’m up here and going to do whatever my body tells me.’ It was what I was feeling in the moment. Of course, they decided to use that as a dance they posted. … It was not my best work, but it was something.”

Lomu should probably learn to embrace that dance, even if he isn’t a fan of it himself. After all, it’s going to follow him for a while.

Caleb Lomu is Excited to Block for Drake Maye

Shortly after the NFL Draft, Caleb Lomu shared that he’s excited for one thing, in particular. That’s playing alongside and blocking for quarterback Drake Maye.

“I’m so excited for that,” Lomu said. “Younger quarterback coming in. Such an amazing player. I mean, what they’ve got going there, especially on their offense, I’m going to be a part of and just their team, they’re on the rise. It’s amazing. Drake Maye is such a talented quarterback. I’m so excited to be able to work with him every day, be able to protect him.”

It didn’t take a football savant last season to see that Maye needed better blocking, particularly in the postseason. The hope is that Lomu can grow into a major role along the offensive line, protecting for Maye.

“I’m a protector,” Lomu said. “I’m an offensive lineman. It’s my job to protect that guy. I’m going to do everything that I can to protect him. So, being able to go to work with him now is going to be amazing.”

Lomu will need some time to transition into the NFL, which includes adding some weight. He’s expected to largely be in a developmental season, but that could include seeing him play as a sixth offensive lineman or a reserve in case of injury while he grows into a starting role.
