The NFL world was left speechless on Sunday night with news that the Ravens have backed out of the blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders that would have sent star edge rusher to Baltimore in exchange for two-first round picks.
“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We have no further comment at this time,” the Raiders said in a statement.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that the trade fell apart because Crosby did not pass his physical. Jeff Zrebiec further adds Crosby has “been in Baltimore for the past couple of days in anticipation of the deal becoming finalized at 4 pm tomorrow.”
So with that, it might have given the New England Patriots prime leverage in landing the edge rusher for an even lower price. Especially since this is a major area of need for the team, who can continue to improve the position even after signing defensive end Dre’Mont Jones.
However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, an unnamed source told him, “No way Tom [Brady] was sending Maxx to [Mike] Vrabel.” So let’s see if this changes anything.
Maxx Crosby Said Goodbye To The Raiders
On Monday, March 9, Crosby shared a photo of himself in a Ravens jersey with the caption, “RAVENS FLOCK…. ITS TIME. 🐦⬛.”
And with that, he also released a heartfelt statement, thanking the Raiders.
“Raider Nation has given me everything,” Crosby said. “My family, had the chance to get married, have the most beautiful daughter in the world, grow as a man, as a player, as a leader, a human being. One thing I could say is above all else is that I gave you everything I got and I have no regrets about that. I put everything into trying to win as a Raider.”
What’s Being Said About Maxx Crosby Trade Falling Through
Dianna Russini: “After Maxx Crosby underwent testing today at the Ravens’ facility, Baltimore made the decision as an organization that it could not move forward with the deal based on the results of the medical. Crosby will remain a Raider for now as other teams can weigh any potential risk…”
Jordan Schultz: “The #Cowboys were the runner-ups on the Maxx Crosby trade. Fair to wonder if they’d jump back in now…”
“Text from a GM: ‘Baltimore is gonna sign Trey Hendrickson. Watch.'”
Ari Meirov: “No signings are official until tomorrow, so with Maxx Crosby back on the Raiders, there are players who agreed to sign with the Raiders — and they spent A LOT in free agency — where we have no clue how this all unfolds. Crosby’s contract is back on the Vegas books.”
Jeff Zrebiec: “This is not the first time a failed physical has scuttled a deal on the Ravens end. It happened in 2018 when the Ravens agreed to terms with FA WR Ryan Grant, but didn’t go through signing him because of an ankle issue. It happened again with Michael Brockers in 2020.”
Field Yates: “This Maxx Crosby situation is crazy. There are massive ripple effects from it. The Raiders’ free agency approach changed when they traded him. Other teams who wanted Crosby pivoted as well. The draft picks involved. And now, the future of Crosby is the biggest question in…”
Adam Schefter: “Welp: It’s not just players that can change their minds. Teams can, too. But clearly there is a reason, and Maxx Crosby still had to take and pass a physical coming off a significant knee injury.”
